Rizzel managed to land one winner from his two selections on Saturday with Kieran Shoemark giving Friendly Soul another belter of a ride by keeping it simple from the front and the horse obliged with another strong staying performance over a shorter trip this time around.
The race that Passenger was involved in was a total farce, which can happen in small fields as they went a crawl which didn't help Rizzel's horse. Richard Kingscote did leave it late on him, and in hindsight he might have wanted to press the go button at least a furlong or two before he did, making it more of a stamina test and getting him rolling into top gear, as the sprint finish did not suit his horse at all.
Cairzny's Tips
Highwaygrey 10/3 – Pontefract 3.42
I have to say, it's a bit of a disappointing turnout for this contest, with only five horses going to post for this class 4 handicap over 1m2f. Although only five go to post, it still looks very competitive, with two out of the five runners bringing some recent winning and consistent form to the table.
I opted for the Tim Easterby-trained Highwaygrey who at 10/3, may very well be the value play against the shorter-priced runners in the market. My selection is now an 8-year-old, and he may find himself vulnerable to some of the younger horses. Still, I can't ignore the trainers' record in this particular race ( has won this race six times since 2013 ), and it's clear that this race has been the aim for my selection who has already won this contest back in 2020.
Highwaygrey tends to run well at Pontefract, winning four times at the course in his career, along with a few placed efforts as well. My selection had an OR in around the mid to high 80s in his prime but has fallen down the weights these past couple of years as his form dipped. He's back down to a mark that he should be competitive at, and running at a course he enjoys, he should give trainer Tim Easterby a good chance of winning this race again.
My selections form figures aren't that inspiring, however, he did go close at Carlisle a few runs back, going down by a neck to Berry Edge. After checking the form for that contest, I was happy to see that it did not read too badly. Jumeira Vision who was well beaten that day went on to win three on the bounce, so be it at class 6 level. Highwaygrey ran with credit last time out at Ayr despite finishing fourth, he fluffed the start but did well to finish as close as he did to the eventual winner.
Zous Juice 5/1 – Pontefract 2.42
This also looks competitive, but the horse that stood out to me at the prices was Zous Juice for trainer Michael & David Easterby.
I was initially tempted by Young Fire, who was a recent losing tip for Rizzel but went on to win next time out. Typical when that happens, and there's nothing more annoying. I've been on the receiving end of backing well-handicapped horses recently and them letting me down but then next time out winning and beating my selection in the process. The Goat is one that springs to mind, I absolutely hate that horse! Anyway, Young Fire is technically still well treated, but carrying top weight was enough to put me off and he doesn't have a claimer on board this time out to aid his chances, at 5/2 I thought he could be avoided.
Zous Juice looks interesting on handicap debut, and his recent novice form looks quite strong on paper. He didn't finish far behind Bubbles Wonky on debut and that one has since run well in defeat in a class 2 handicap at Hamilton. Monfrid who was the eventual winner has also gone on to run well in higher-grade races, in particular at Goodwood when finishing fifth, not far off Qirat and Al Shabab Storm.
On his following run, Zous Juice finished six and a half lengths back in fifth. The second and fourth-placed have won races since and the form of the second-place horse reads particularly well as Thunder Run followed up by going on and winning two on the bounce.

Flight Plan 4/1 – Pontefract 3.12
I'm writing this quite early, and it seems that the Embesto is priced up as favourite, which doesn't surprise me, but I have to take him on at the opening prices as I don't think his form is strong enough to suggest he is bulletproof against my fancy.
For this race I like Flight Plan who is very good or terrible, there is rarely an in between with Karl Burke's horse, but when he is on point he is a very capable horse and could easily land a race of this nature. He ran in this race last year and that saw him finish as runner-up behind a horse named Poker Face who has some close form with the favourite Embesto. That run in this race 12 months ago was a decent effort and the form has worked out okay as Witch Hunter was in behind and he went on to win a Group 2 over 7f, so there's definitely some substance. However, the main form to focus on is in his races after the Pontefract race, mainly the Leopardstown Group 2 which he won and did with ease. He is a horse who does like to run from the front, but it's not an issue if he doesn't get to the front, but he did so at Leopardstown and won a decent Group 2 in taking style on the front end. He beat some very capable horses that day, including Victoria Road who was a Group 1 winner as juvenile.
This season Flight Plan has run three times, with two of those efforts being shocking and the other being a decent effort over a trip which is on the short side for him. However, it does seem that his best form comes in the second half of the season, so now we're almost entering August, this might be the time to catch him right, similar to last year.
I think Danny Tudhope will settle him in second place and stalk the likely leader who breaks from Stall 1. If he doesn't get penned in on the rail, then I think we're in with a great chance, as he'll be in the box seat and ready to pounce on the leader who doesn't look up to standard for this level of race. Embesto will more than likely be running on strongly, but I do have real doubts over his form, and he could be flattered to have been as close in a Group 2 last time out. He was awful on his previous two runs, and though the winner at Ascot was a strong favourite, he didn't impress me, so the numbers that people are coming up with in terms of that performance seem highly inflated, and I think you have to take Embesto on, who will only be getting shorter in the market for today's race.
Jet Of Magic 10/1 – Uttoxeter 3.25 (Each-Way)
As far as Sunday jumps summer races go, this Class 2 is a great little race with many in with a chance of winning. I'm staying away from those at the head of the market and I am more than happy playing Jet Of Magic as an each-way bet.
Nigel Twiston-Davies' 8-year-old won on his stable debut at Uttoxeter last summer and did it nicely. That win came off the same mark that he runs off today, so he is handicapped to go in again at some stage and given how well he ran at this venue on stable debut and then he would've been second at the very least in this race 12 months ago, I think he is the play for this race. Last year in this race he was going through the race as the winner, having every horse off the bridle, but the saddle slipped before two from home and then Sam unseated when the eventual winner came upsides at the jump. It's hard to say who would've won, but as I mentioned before, he would've definitely been in the top two.
Nigel has been very patient with Jet Of Magic this year as he has only been out one time which came at Uttoxeter in May. It was evident that he needed the run from a 144-day absence, and since then he has been withdrawn on two occasions at Uttoxeter because of soft ground and good to soft ground, both being deemed as unsuitable. They have been waiting for the right ground for Jet Of Magic, and they seem to be very confident that he has his best chance of winning a race at this track, as why else would they only be entering him at this track? I'm confident off his last winning mark and now getting the good ground he needs, he is severely overpriced in the market.

Loss/profit I assume he means . Usually posted on a Sunday.
😂
It’s been phased out already haha . No shame in it everybody loses some more than others but it’s the same result in the end . Lose lose lose 😂 unless you get paid to be a loser then it softens the blow a little bit . If you follow the unlucky 15 as well then your losses are doubled 😂 . A dart board is just as effective as a well educated guess I say . Just enjoy the good days and if you do play to level stakes if you win a bit then quickly go buy something online to treat yourself so your not tempted to give it back so all your ever losing is what you would happily waste on a subway or Mac Donald’s or in my case glory holes !!!
Just watching Seoul racing you should hear the depressing music they play before the off my word haha 😂
There is a horse in the race called dirt surfer why that made me chuckle god only knows 😂😂
Morning drinking is it Dazzman19Tickety9 ? 😉
Yeah I just had a goblet of piss 😂
Tennents or Calsberg then? 😂
Well done to all the winners yesterday, Elvis to the top of the class (super pick)
Nothing from me today but if I’ve time later I’ll try put up some pointers for Galway which starts tomorrow.
BOL
I don’t have a William Hill account but at times like this I wish I had.
The big race on Day 1 of the Galway Festival (7.10) I like 2 and WH are so so generous with their odds it’s actually laughable. Skybet are also way off the mark but they are ridiculously short. (I just don’t think they know what they are doing when it comes to irish racing)

Sticking with polyvega in the hope she improves from that first run too.

This group 3 more her level
4-35 angeal 5-2 (bet365 boost price)

5-10 sunfast 7-4 top 3 finish (Ladbrokes)
Favourite bel et bien looks a likely winner but I’d rather risk this top 3 rather than a favourite in this sort of race.

Been running on dirt and seems to be as good on AW then spied his one workout on AW he “breezed” 4 furlongs in 46.30 seconds BUT race is over 1 mile and he’s not ran by 6F but I’ll take the chance trainer knows what he’s doing with Sonny Leon staying on board
