Saturday's Lucky 15 bet was awfully unlucky not to have more winners than Best Adventure at 7/2.
Sterling Knight was placed at 8/1, and got going too late, as the biggest outsider went on and won. I wouldn't have picked the winner if you gave me all week to study the race, so that was frustrating.
Lightening Mann also finished as runner-up in the London Gold Cup. They tried making all with him, and considering he was friendless in the market, he ran a belter and nearly got back on the line to beat one of the fancied runners.
This bet is being advised as an each-way Lucky 15.
Lady Iman 7/4 EW – Naas 4.03
I was tempted to stick Lady Iman as a single in the main thread, but I decided to put her up in the Lucky 15 bet as I've got two on the main thread already.
She has the best form on offer, and she looks like a really good two-year-old sprinter, which is what you want for races like this. That might sound obvious, but a lot of the horses who make up these races at this time of the year are horses who will be contesting further distances in the near future, and I think that's the case with a few of the horses in this race, especially the Aidan O'Brien couple.
Lady Iman has a great sprinting pedigree and is related to two black type horses, with West Acre being the best sibling.
Spring Is Sprung 8/1 EW – Newmarket 4.15
Paul Midgley doesn't send too many horses down to Newmarket, and even though his record with his runners at this track isn't amazing, it still catches the eye, as does the booking of Oisin Murphy.
This horse is a decent sprinter when on a going day, and that day normally comes when his handicap mark falls to 72, which is the mark he has won his last two races from. He managed to record an RPR of 84 when running off this mark last June at Pontefract, and a repeat performance will be good enough for him to walk away with the win today.
Oisin is also 2/7 when riding for this yard in the last five years.
Terwada 6/1 EW – Newmarket 6.15
Given how inconsistent a couple of these have been in recent times, and others being on tough enough handicap marks, I've decided to give Terwada a try on his stable debut for Jamie Osborne.
This horse's old older pieces of form would make him a live dog in this race, and given that I think this race isn't as strong as it looks on paper, if Jamie can get him back to anything like he used to be, he is massively overpriced.
He was a useful three-year-old, winning at the July course over a couple of furlongs shorter, but produced an RPR of 102. He showed that he still has the ability to mix it at this level, as on his penultimate run he was second in a Class 2 handicap at York, recording an RPR of 101.
The two horses at the bottom of the weights who seem to be catching a bit of traction in the market are best on the AW and have to prove themselves.
Magna Grecia Star 5/1 EW – Newmarket 6.45
If the step up to a mile can bring out a bit of improvement from Magna Grecia Star, then we could be on to a winner.
This horse is still a lightly raced filly, with just three runs in her career to date. She has shown she can win races, and last time out she bumped into one who is definitely a class above. The winner of the race at Catterick has since finished 3rd in a Listed race at York earlier this week. Obviously, horse maths doesn't always work out like you think it will, but Magna Grecia Star made the winner work to the line, so I think she is definitely better than her mark of 80.
