Royal Ascot Prince Of Waless Stakes

Since we are doing one race preview per day, it's definitely best to focus on the big race of the day.

Prince Of Wales's Stakes (Group 1)

This race is what every fan of racing wants to see. We get all the horses in the race that we want lining up, apart from one or two, but for the most part, this is brilliant to see.

Los Angeles heads the market, and it is difficult to argue against it. Aidan's horse has won his two starts this season, beating White Birch in a close finish in a Group 2 on seasonal reappearance before winning the Tattersalls Gold Cup last time out. This year, he has shown more pace than what we've seen from him. I've always felt he is better over slightly further, which is backed up by his third in last year's Arc at Longchamp. It's hard to knock his form; he is a top-quality horse and multiple Group 1 winner and will be tough to beat. He will have his usual pace setters making the pace for him, so he will get the race run to suit.

The French send over a couple of runners. Facteur Cheval is the older statesman and is still running well at the age of six. It would be a surprise if he were to win this, but if he can roll back the years and put in a performance that pushed Paddington in the Sussex, he could be placed. The main threat from France is definitely Map Of Stars for Wathnan racing, who are big players in the game now. This horse is a Group 2 winner, but probably should have won his maiden Group 1 last time out. Mickael Barzalona got the tactics all wrong at Longchamp and left the horse with too much to do. The form of the race brings him into this with a proper chance, as he was behind Sosie last time out. Sosie was fourth in last year's Arc and has since won another Group 1, beating Sardinian Warrior. That horse was fancied to run well in the opener on Day 1 before being an NR.

Anmaat showed he wasn't all about soft ground when finishing close behind Los Angeles at the Curragh last time out. He is a very good horse who is definitely underappreciated. He is a Group 1 winner in France and the UK, the latter being on Champions Day last year on rain-sodden ground. I do believe he is better on soft ground, but he showed that he can win races on quicker ground. But today's ground is going to be rattling fast.

The filly in the race, See The Fire, deserves a mention. She was a previous selection of mine on her comeback run, where she desperately needed. She was travelling well but went out like a light, but put that to bed on her run last time out. She was impeccable at York last time out, showing she is streets ahead of the girls. If she were to win this, it wouldn't be a shock, but this is a different ball game from what she raced against last time.
