Racing Tips – Oisin Murphy Can Guide Flowering To First Victory

It was nice to land a winner on Wednesday with Special Dragon who on that performance looks ahead of her mark and open to further progress down the line.

The winning run unfortunately came to an end for Sunday Soldier. To her credit she gave it a good to complete the six-timer, but ultimately the handicapper always catches up in the end. Connections can't complain as she has been nothing short of superb all season.

My other selection Rattling Road was out-paced as the race quickened, and he very quickly dropped back down the field. I was at least on the right track with going against the short priced Willie Mullins favourite however It counts for nothing if you pick the wrong horse to place your money on.

Onto Thursdays racing! I only have the sole selection for Thursday and it comes in a pretty low grade contest from Beverley.

Flowering 3/1 – Beverley 5:40

This race can only be described as bottom of the barrel stuff but I have to give this horse one last roll of the dice before calling it a day with her.

I've been following Flowering since January 2024 and it seems a bit silly to continue following a horse who hasn't progressed but sometimes you get a soft spot for a horse even at this sort of level. She has fallen into that category of being consistent without progressing, hence why her form figures read 32333.

A nightmare category to find your horse in for a trainer and even more a nightmare from a tipping/punting angle. You can find yourself chasing the first win as you know the horse is capable, but In the end you'll find yourself out of pocket as a result. I remember following a horse called Faustinovick, If you are a follower of jumps racing you'll remember how frustrating that one was before he finally got a win on the board.

Anyway! Enough blabbering and onto the selection.

There is two things that caught my eye when I decided to go with Flowering. The first thing was the jockey booking of Oisin Murphy. Oisin has never rode Flowering before and doesn't tend to ride that often for Charlie Johnson.

The second was the decision by connections to drop Flowering back from 1m4 to 1m1. I watched all of her last 5 outings which were over 1m4 and to be honest it's a bit of a strange one. She looks like a horse who on some occasions doesn't stay the trip and in other races stays on which would suggest she maybe needs further. I don't believe connections know her best trip yet, hence the decision to drop her back a few furlong.

I'll be interested to see what tactics Oisin goes for on her as she's been ridden both cold out the back and positively from the front on previous runs and neither of those have worked.
