It was one winner from three on Sunday, which is better than drawing a complete blank I suppose.
My main selection Kassaya was able to take a step forward from debut and get off the mark. She looks like a nice horse going forward and I'm looking forward to seeing her over further once connections decide to up her in trip.
Brunch was disappointing and I expected a much better effort than that. I mentioned last night that he is now in the decline stage of his career and is clearly not the force he once used to be. American Affair finished second, running a decent race in the end. The eventual winner Desperate Hero romped home and made a competitive handicap look pretty ordinary.
I've two selections on Monday and they both come from the evening meeting at Windsor.
Blue Day 7/4 – Windsor 6:45
If you are a regular follower of this thread, you may remember me tipping this horse up back in April. He repaid us that day with an Impressive victory at Southwell in a class 3 handicap.
In his early races as a juvenile, he didn't manage to secure a win, but he did show signs of ability by finishing fourth twice and second once, never falling behind by more than three and a quarter lengths. Notably, several winners emerged from the horses that finished behind him on all three occasions. Mister Sketch is the most obvious horse that comes to mind as he went on to place in a Group Two race.
Considering his consistent performances, it was no surprise that Blue Day was made the 6-5 favorite for his comeback race at Southwell in April. He effortlessly outclassed his competitors in his first handicap race, winning by a comfortable length and a half. He comes here now 7lb higher but given the nature of his recent success, It wouldn't be a surprise to see him follow up from his recent Southwell win.
Red Pixie 7/4 – Windsor 6:15
Red Pixie was backed heavily in her previous outing but disappointed her supporters on the day. It's still early days for Sir Michael Stoutes youngster and she deserves another chance to prove herself in this contest.
Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, she made her debut at Kempton in November and despite a less than ideal start, she finished fourth, only one and a half lengths behind the eventual winner. In her next race at Yarmouth in April, she was sent off a 5/2 favorite but had to settle for third place, losing by just over a length to the well-regarded newcomer Run Away. The second-place finisher, Cat Ninja, has since won a race, and Red Pixie was only caught in the final stages on that occasion. Therefore, it seems a sensible decision by connections to drop back to six furlongs for this upcoming race.
