Two of the three selections placed yesterday which was just about acceptable enough despite a small loss. El Champo halved in price and went off favourite, his race was won by The Big Chap, a horse he beat by 10 lengths in August who was a further 5lbs worse off today…
There looks to be loads of value to be found on a great day's racing for a Monday but I have decided to stick to shorter priced runners who will hopefully run accordingly.
Attacanter's Tips
Style Of Life 3/1 – 19.30 Wolverhampton
Harriet Bethell had a cheeky across the card double on Friday for this ownership group, I tipped against one of them but knew as soon as the first went in, her other was likely to follow suit.
Style of Life leads the market at the time of writing, a horse she purchased last season from Jamie Osbourne. The horse had won twice on the AW for him and it hasn't taken her new handler to get a tune out of this New Bay filly.
With two 2nds and a win from five runs, I don't usually side with progressive types but I thought this horse must have strong place claims returned to Wolverhampton for the first time since winning just over a year ago before going in at Chelmsford rated 62.
She won at Thirsk a month ago off 6lbs lower than today but only went down by a neck to Urban Sprawl off 67 last time at Pontefract, she should benefit from a less taxing track today despite being 2lbs higher.
The Eyes Have It 10/3 three places – 15.45 Pontefract
With a short priced selection to kick off the bet, I thought it was worth sticking to slightly more solid selections today in hopes of some kind of return and this seven runner race looked ideal with three places paid.
Saying that, Sofia's Starlight ticks almost every box but of course I am going to take her on with one effectively the same price with much more to prove.
My selection is very lightly raced having just four starts to her name from a fully respected yard. Callum Rodriguez doesn't get a ride for them too often but has won twice from just four starts, he's a northern jockey and for me a positive.
On breeding, the drop to 6f doesn't look likely to suit, but we pin our hopes on the testing conditions and a stiff stamina biased Pontefract to suit our preference for further. The price doesn't offer a lot of value with the uncertainties but I am happy to trust in William Haggas.
Invincible Aura 11/2 four places – 17.08 Southwell
Brave Zulu is the 11/4 market leader on skybet, a horse I could put up at 15/2, I'll avoid but it is something to monitor. The other nuance in this race is Magical Merlin, a horse who bombed for us at a short price recently now with a 5lb apprentice on board who had a winner at the weekend.
I am going to stick with yet another favourite of mine, Marco Botti who sends Invincible Aura here with Danny Muscutt on board, he operates at 12.2% for the yard, nobody has more wins than he does either.
I am not going to be swayed by the fact Class 4 company has so far proved too much for this highly tried 3-year-old. He was 2nd last time at Wolverhampton with Paddy McDonald on board (rides Lerwick in this), the two in behind that day both won next time out which reads quite well.
He was raised 1lb for that which isn't ideal, now 6lbs above his most recent win in August. He won over C&D back in March off 1lb lower in a slightly worse race and looks to have strong place claims despite not checking over too many rivals.
Shamran 4/1 – 16.45 Pontefract
I didn't want to conclude the bet with a chancy selection, there is enough racing on today to find something which could fit in with today's bet profile, but it it is Shamran I will reluctantly throw in having been a NR for us back in September.
I have trepidation over this selection as he steps up in trip at a very testing track, the sire Kingman was only ever beat by one horse, but never went beyond the mile, his top progeny have never gone beyond a mile either. I was about to scrap her altogether with the ground also up for question before Friendly Soul offering some hope. That horse, like her sire, also trained by the Gosden's was a winner over 1m2f on soft in a Group 1 on Arc day.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?
A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:
– 1 fourfold accumulator
– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections
– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination
– 4 singles
The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
