JOHNB was unable to toast success from a Spanish bar as Sunday's tip faded at the finish to come in second.

Royalraise couldn't raise a cheer for our man who may post selections later if gets time to research.

Meanwhile, let's get the thread going with tips and thoughts from the usual suspects.

looking back at the derby trial at leopardstown yesterday ideho was in 5th place coming up to the bend he lost so much ground on the outside he was 2nd last just out of the bend and was only beaten 1. 3/4 lgths im happy with what i saw

    • alex 3 years ago

the plug I have to agree with you. I wondered whether they were looking at tactics during the trial to see how Idaho would fair coming off the pace rather than making the running as per its previous run. I still think that Idaho could have been positioned better if the intention was to win this race but not overly concerned as the Derby is over longer. I think subject to JohnB’s view that the horse can do both but for the Derby you want to be up close to the action so that there can be a turn of pace and bam.

      • lobwedge 3 years ago

He didn’t make the running in his last race. It was a mirror of yesterday’s. Heffenham with his usual easy ride unlike Moore on Shogun.

        • alex 3 years ago

lobwedge-quite right I had confused it with another race. Fortunately for me not having bets of my own today.

          • lobwedge 3 years ago

I know the feeling! Anyway, I’m sure there’s more to come from the horse given a more enterprising ride. Another two furlongs and it will be completely different.

      • trickytjm 3 years ago

Having re-watched the race a few times it’s clear to see that Seamie Heffernan wasn’t hard on Idaho and didn’t really pick his stick up which is good to see at this stage. So I’m happy with what I saw too theplug and alex- or is that just because I’m already ‘invested’ for the Derby ;-) Will be interesting to hear JohnB’s view when he gets a chance.

  26. moscowflyer 3 years ago

Well done to the winners, my NAP disappointed in the 6:40, although missing the break didn’t help, I’m not sure he would have won either way.

Until tomorrow, have a couple of fancies.

Tracey Waggot has a couple of runners taking good money at present in Beverley tomorrow…..
