Not my type won. He broke well and went to the front. Tom Marquand gave him a good front-running ride.
Partying broke well, tracked the winner in third place, but couldn’t bridge the gap. It was a nice enough debut and should come on for the run next time out.
Chantelle 7/4 – Epsom 5.13
Usually, when two horses have previously met, I think the winner of the previous match will confirm the places. This time, I think Chantelle has every right to be better and beat Trio.
Chantelle made her return to the track at Epsom after 150 days away. She wasn't beaten by much by Trio, and the winner was match fit from plenty of runs before. With that run under her belt, she will have come on plenty, and I can see her reversing the form with the favourite.
The fly in the ointment is the third horse in the market. The problem for Loblolly is that he doesn't look particularly well handicapped, even though he ran well at Glorious Goodwood a couple of weeks ago.
Maire Rua 13/8 – Cork 6.03
With Listed form in the book, it's fully understandable to have Alwaysanangel as the favourite. The form of that third-place effort looks rock-solid, but Maire Rua was impressive on debut, and I'm siding with her.
Ger Lyons knows the family of Maire Rua very well. He trains Red Letter, who is a full sister to Maire Rua, and is a very talented filly in her own right. Maire Rua was strong in the market and justified the money by winning comfortably.
The form of Maire Rua's debut has been franked by those finishing in the places. The runner-up was a winner next time out, and then finished third in a Listed race behind an Aidan runner. The third-placed horse managed to finish third in a Group 3 on her next start.
Evenfall 11/10 – Newbury 4.45
This is typically a race I wouldn't want to touch, but I think Evenfall is the best horse in the race at this current moment, so I'm happy to take a chance at short odds.
Normally, when the Boughey yard puts the money down on one of their debut runners, it normally means that they are well above average. Evenfall won a four-runner race at Yarmouth, which wouldn't normally catch my attention, but she did it nicely.
Also, the form of the Yarmouth race is starting to work out. The runner-up went on to win on their next start and recorded an RPR in the low 90s, which seems to be one of the better/if not best form line in the race.
