Rizz reached out to me to cover Thursday's racing. He had something come up unexpectedly. As a result, he was unable to study Thursday's meetings.
Rizz had two selections on Wednesday. His first selection was Felicitas for the Ed Walker team. I managed to catch that race live, and I couldn’t really find any excuses for the horse. Kieran Shoemark threw the kitchen sink at his mount, but she simply didn’t pick up as most would have expected.
Rizz managed to get a winner on the board in the shape of Kokbastau, who never looked in trouble during his race. He shortened to odds on and drifted before the off, going off at 11/10 in the end. He won by 5L in the end and looks like one to keep an eye on next time out.
Not My Type 15/8 – Beverley 2.15
I floated around different bookmakers for odds on this horse, and some have my selection as favourite, and some have What A Girl Wants as favourite. One of those bookmakers was Sky Bet, who have my selection as short at 5/4. I thought it was all a bit bizarre, but for most, What A Girl Wants is your market favourite for this contest.
I think you have to take her on in this race. She has been contesting in tougher races than this, and this contest does represent a significant drop in class for the K P De Foy runner, but I don’t think she’s bulletproof.
I thought Not My Type was the one worth siding with to take the market principle on. My selection is by No Nay Never, and Haggas has a great record with that family of horses. She has to carry a 7lb penalty on the back of her debut success at Sandown two weeks ago, but I thought there was a lot to like about that performance. When the penny dropped, I thought she responded well and showed a good racing attitude. That was only her first outing, and there’s every reason to believe she’ll continue progressing and take another step forward. Notably, the form of that debut performance reads not too bad, with the third coming out and winning next time around.
Partying 6/4 – Windsor 7.11
I wasn’t planning on sticking two selections up on Thursday, but I’ve decided to give the De Foy trained Partying a chance on debut to turn over the odds on favourite.
Your current favourite hails from the George Boughey yard in the shape of Waterford Castle. Young Billy Loughnane is on board once more, but he’s had plenty of chances of breaking his duck. He’s now 0-10, and I think there comes a time when, if you’ve been following a horse and they continually let you down, you need to swerve away and look elsewhere. Waterford Castle hasn’t always enjoyed the rub of the green during his races, and he could finally get off the mark, but at the prices I’m willing to take him on.
Partying isn’t exactly a spectacular price at 6/4, but he could prove value given his pedigree, being by Frankel. He cost a whopping 4,400,000 gns as a yearling and ticks a lot of boxes on paper. He’s making his racecourse debut in this contest, but he could be a cut above this lot if ready to go first time around. If I’m honest, it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if the price of 6/4 shortens to something around even money, and I would advise taking the 6/4 tonight if you decide to follow my selection.
