Cairnzy will be covering Friday's racing. Rizz will return tomorrow evening with his selections for Saturday.
Rizzel’s sole selection on Friday ran a decent enough race in my opinion, despite drifting slightly in the market from the advised odds of 10s to 14s. The winner looked miles ahead of his mark and looks an exciting sort going forward for connections.
Beach Point 14/1 EW – York 5.18
Large field flat handicap races at York are normally something I’d avoid, as most of the time you need luck in running and form lines can completely go out the window.
Skybet are offering 6 places in this race and is still offering Beach Point at 14s, and that’s the avenue I’ve opted to go down in this contest.
My selection Beach Point has remained a consistent sort for his trainer William Knight, and despite not winning since his seasonal return, he’s at least remained in good form with recent figures of 434 since returning in a Class 4 handicap at Yarmouth back in April.
Marco Ghiani takes the ride, and Marco is a top jockey who’s strong in the finish and tends to throw the kitchen sink on his mounts, which is what you want to see when backing a horse at an each-way price. My selection also has a handy drawer in stall 6, which is another positive.
Galba 25/1 EW – Sandown 4.35
Initially, I was tempted by the favourite Euphonia. I’m a big fan of the Shoemark and Ed Walker combo, and the horse itself is in great form. With that said, a 10lb rise will make things harder this time around, and Sandown is one of those tracks, in my opinion, where a large hike in the weights can catch horses out. On paper, she’s the one to beat, and the nature of her previous wins suggests she could well be capable of defying the rise, but I just wasn’t sure.
At the prices, I’ve gone for one of the complete outsiders in the Richard Hannon trained Galba. I mentioned only a few days ago about the current form of Richard Hannon, and I think at present all of his runners have to be respected regardless of their market price.
My selection was last seen finishing sixth in a Class 5 handicap at Windsor over 1m. It was clear as day that Galba didn’t stay the trip on that occasion. Galba finished a very respectable third in a Class 3 at Leicester over 7f prior to his last outing, and I think a repeat performance of that effort would see him involved in this race.
