Three place efforts was fine enough but it didn't result in a profit as the biggest priced selection let us down, It's annoying to go so close but when chances are taken we can't complain.

In regards to the comments, an each way L15 is a hard bet to profit from, I see it as a small wager to potentially hit big, my task is to ensure we don't lose to much in between. Given I have to find four value plays each day, backing singles carries plenty of risk but it is something for readers to consider given what the stats were last month.

Attacanter Racing Tips

Shaladar 3/1 four places – 14.12 Ascot

I see no reason why not to chance Shaladar, a horse I have mentioned a couple of times as those who are on will know – he looked a certain winner last time only to be done late.

Kevin Ryan drops him a furlong, returned to the same course in an identical race – only this time for male apprentice's. The young claimer puts the horse 3lbs lower today and that sounds quite good.

The horse rarely contests 7f which is a slight issue but he has conditions to suit and all being well his top 4 claims have to be very strong. I have flicked on 3-4 rivals briefly and enough needed taking on trust to be satisfied 3/1 is still value for Shaladar. Dakota Power was 3.25 lengths in 3rd in the Ascot race now 10lbs worse off. We are near the top of the weights but I doubt 4 horses are good enough to beat us.

Master Richard 7/1 four places – 18.00 Newcastle

Master Richard represents a likeable combination, although it is rare they will pop up. It's been well over a year since the horse win, it was here over a furlong shorter, that win was off 87, he is now 4lbs below that.

In November last year, 4lbs higher, over C&D the horse finished third in a Class 3. His 12 runs without a win is obviously offputting, he isn't overly dangerously weighted but besides his previous two contests, he has mixed it in Class 2 and 3's which I am hoping is enough to mean he can compete in this.

Newcastle is a stiff enough mile for a horse who typically contests 7f races but enough boxes are ticked, his 4th at Southell's Racing League meeting last time isn't the worst piece of form.

Turbo Command 5/1 – 19.30 Newcastle

This is a combination I put up recently with Drakeholes, the horse placed, I won't dig into my notes but they have a very good strikerate together here and this horse has already been nibbled at.

I've just mentioned this is a stiff enough track, but that doesn't mean everything, pace obviously is the main component as to whether the horse can handle the going. Off the back of that, I am willing to chance Turbo Command despite a lack of value now upped to a mile.

The course 2nd here last time was pleasing enough, never really getting near the winner but was running on to suggest he isn't totally up against it today. His last two wins have been over 7f which is a red flag but has gone close over this trip on grass. I'd have liked to have found something that offered more value but we take our chance.

In my haste to finish, I have just seen Drakeholes is out tonight, that does make me feel like we are a tag-a-long but this is the earliest I've had my selections ready in a long time and I'll enjoy an early night.

You Some Girl 9/2 three places – 17.50 Hexham

Rebecca Menzies is a really likeable trainer and Brian Hughes takes a rare enough ride for her. From just 13 rides over the previous 12 months, they've enjoyed five winners which is typically about as good as it gets.

The horse is short enough for one yet to win, and in fairness what it's shown but the alternative was a 13/8 shot carrying a penalty whilst the winner jockey was taking just one ride at Fontwell – off that alone Adam Wedge's mount was almost chanced but it's only 2 places up against two short enough in the market, I didn't look at the race but may chance a quid on it.

I am not sure the trainer has figured out this horse yet, 2nd of 5 over 2m1f at Carlisle before 3rd of 9 over 2m6f at Cartmel. The drop back in trip is likely to suit given she faded into a distant third last time. It'll be hard enough to win this Class 4 contest and I'd typically prefer to see Ross Chapman on but the strikerate has swayed me despite only sending out 3 winners in October last year.

*Advised Bet – Eachway L15*

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
