What happened today Johnb? Looked like a mile was too far?! Never got a lead and didn’t look like getting one at any stage either. Not a front runner for sure

  2. johnb 4 years ago

Nick Energia Flavio did make the pace but thought he could have gone out harder at the start because he was up against horses that didnt like alot of early pace and he gets a mile because he ran a better race last time over slightly further

  3. Luke A 4 years ago

Booked tickets for Chelmsford racing tomorrow. 6 of us going, £22 a ticket. Seems bit pricey for all weather racing, as I’ve paid less for July cup meeting at Newmarket. However, It should be a good day. Interested to see how different it is to when it was Great Leighs.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Jockey mistake, bad ride? Just didn’t pick up in the final furlong. Didn’t look like it was a better horse in a weaker race. If we went out harder maybe he wud of ran out of steam? Who knows. What’s the thinking on tmoro picks John b?

  6. Yves 4 years ago

Interested on your thoughts on the jockey’s decision to jump the last in the 2.40 at Fsos Las today (West Wales National).

I seen there’s been a lot of opinions on it.

  7. Yves 4 years ago

Sorry – should say the horse was Gorgehous Lliege.

  8. double carpet 4 years ago

9lbs higher for latest win but still looks well in for this race

Won race last year off same mark so seems good value at the price to get into the frame providing all 8 go to post

    Best of luck to all

Enjoy the day. Any whispers you know where we are !!

  10. frodo 4 years ago

Yves I ain’t and never will be at Johnb’s level of knowledge but for my 2 penneths worth opinion is that the horse was pulled up and wasn’t fit to jump the last. If there had been 2 or 3 other horses jumping the last it would never have been an issue but the jockey looked round and realised that if it finished a. The prize money would be collected and b. The ew punters get a return. Can’t blame him for doing it but that should have been the end of the race for Gorgehous Lliege.

  11. Jimmy 4 years ago

I agree frodo. 2nd prize money could be worth his feed for a couple of months

  12. Yves 4 years ago

A bit from the Stewards report for those that are interested:

“The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Callum Whillans, the rider of GORGEHOUS LLIEGE (FR), had pulled the gelding up before the last fence when it appeared to be tiring in the Heavy ground, and then walked away from the fence, cantered in and proceeded to jump the last to finish second, beaten 99 plus lengths. They interviewed the rider and the Veterinary Officer, who stated that the gelding had finished tired but not exhausted. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards accepted the rider’s explanation that, noticing there were no other finishers behind him and after giving his horse a breather, he jumped the last fence without difficulty and cantered to the line.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, BOB FORD (IRE), ridden by P Townend and trained by Rebecca Curtis, compared with the gelding’s previous run at Chepstow on 27 December 2014, where it was pulled up. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the gelding was suited by the front running tactics. They ordered BOB FORD (IRE) to be routine tested.”

  13. johnb 4 years ago

Yves we havnt heard the end of this because stewards secretary Richard Westropp gold At The Races that jockey Callum Whillans did pull the horse up
Richard Westropp went on to say “the jockey is allowed to do what he did. he took the correct course and has done nothing wrong”

Now this is the ruling from the bha rule book on a horse being pulled up

    Rule 46.4
Where a rider pulls up for any reason, he must wait in the area where he pulled up
until all contenders in the race have passed by & if the race is a steeplechase or hurdle race he must refrain from jumping any further obstacles

  14. Cooldude 4 years ago

  15. Yves 4 years ago

    Drama indeed!

That’s fascinating JB. I would never have known that rule existed. Just watched it again and it’s definitely pulled up for me. Don’t want to see the jockey get into trouble but rules are rules and they are there for the welfare of the horses.

  16. frodo 4 years ago

Yves thanks for that info. By the account of both jockey and veterinary officer, the horse was only tired due to the testing conditions and by jumping the last fence has completed the race. Case closed, Gorgehous Lliege finished 2nd in that race.

    • busstop 4 years ago

hi all john is spot on with the rule

The rule is if the horse was pulled up its not allowed to jump the fence. If it refused to jump it can go back and jump The horse was obviously pulled up but stewards allowed it jump again

Hope for the place pot bet it works out for you

Well done busStop and boz, very nice winners!
first experience of Chelmsford was…Extremely cold!! Still plenty of work to be done there, but by the summer it should mostly all be in place, making the experience a better one.
Poor day for me results wise, but very nearly turned into a great day at the end. I had an across the card each way trixie towards the end of the day, embracing change won at 7/2, sea soldier 11/2, then I had fly vinnie in the last at Musselburgh. I only chose it over the favourite for more value. Big mistake as Dawalan won well. Never mind.
