ELEGIAC (4.25) has a big chance at Haydock despite having to carry top weight in the 1m 6f handicap.
Mark Johnston’s gelding won on the soft at Newmarket but found Haydock riding very deep when a well-beaten third to Mekong. His latest second to Uber Cool at Yarmouth was another good run and conditions will be fine this afternoon.
David O’Meara scored with a French recruit at Ayr last week and MARKAZI (4.55) boasts a similar profile. The four-year-old has winning form on soft across the English Channel and showed distinct promise when fourth to Alemaratalyoum here in August. The second and third horses, War Glory and Mountain Angel, have since boosted the form.
Tom Dascombe and Richard Kingscote have been a regular source of winners at Haydock for several seasoins and CRIMSON SKIES (2.05) can go one better than on her previous visit to the track when beaten a short head in a 1m 3f maiden. The front two raced five lengths clear of the third and this return to handicap company could do the trick.
There was a draw bias at Newmarket yesterday, favouring high drawn horses racing against the stands’ rail, and UNFORGETABLE FILLY (1.50) is nicely berthed to attack up the ‘golden highway’. She had more than 10 lengths in hand of fourth home Agrotera when scoring at Haydock last month and they meet on the same terms.
STAR ROCK (2.25) will be hard to beat if running to the same level as her third to Pilaster and Maid Up in the Lillie Langtry Stakes at Goodwood last month. Hughie Morrison’s filly is a dual winner at HQ.
