OUR number one tip last week Justin Thomas threw away a four shot final round lead to finish second, beaten by one shot. In tough conditions on the back nine his putting deserted him with him, 3-putting two greens and four-putting one.
However, second place was in paying position as was a top 10 finish. Our two other selections finished in tied 15th. A loss of a couple of points on the day.
This week we head to Mexico for the first WGC Championship of the year at a par 71 of over 7,300 yards. However, the course is at altitude and plays a lot shorter.
In recent years this has turned into a putting competition and with it playing short GIR is essential and a good scrambler .
Our three for this week are as follows…
Justin Thomas
Firstly, I am going to stick with our selection from last week in the form of JUSTIN THOMAS. A solid performer in these events he can gain compensation for last week, has good course form and is on top form.
Marc Leishman
Second pick is MARC LEISHMAN, a favourite of mine, this guy is in red hot form with three top 3’s from four starts this season.
Finished tied 4th last week with all four rounds being in the 60’s. The big Australian has also finished in the top 5 in Majors and WGC’s on five occasions.
Matthew Fitzpatrick
Thirdly, we will go in with Englishman MATTHEW FITZPATRICK who loves playing at altitude and has good solid recent form.
Playing with a lot of confidence and capable of being in the mix in this company.
Normal bets as usual; one point each way all with Paddy Power and one point win top 10 finish.
Recommended Bets
- Thomas 9/1 (Paddy Power)
- Top 10 11/8 (Skybey)
- Leishman 30/1 (Paddy Power)
- Top 10 3/1 (Unibet)
- Fitzpatrick 66/1 (Paddy Power)
- Top 10 15/2 (Unibet)
Good Luck to you all
Still licking my wounds after last week, leishmann 35/1 got a place, but ken tanigawa 66/1 despite been joint leader going into the final round ,finished one shot out of the place positions for the second week running ,and costing me a 170/1 e/w double.
Unlucky my friend
Trev,…
Gone for Fleetwood e/w@ 35/1
Cabrera bello e/w@ 50/1
Also Fleetwood top Englishman @ 4/1 and Cabrera bello top Spaniard @ 7/2 in a double.
Would agree with Cabrera Bello has he his playing well and a lot better at the moment than Rahm and Garcia…Rahm if on his game and throwing no temper tantrums will be the danger.
As for Englishman I still think Fleetwood is still a little rusty and was in between Fitzpatrick and Hatton for my outright selections (based mainly on their liking for playing at altitude) Hatton to be fair was very close to selection and in the absence of Rose this is a very open market.
Good Luck
And good luck to you with your selections.
