CARL PETTERSON ran away with the title last year, winning by five shots without ever looking in danger.

The Swede is not in quite the same form this time around but made the cut at Augusta and must be backed at an enormous price to beat esteemed playing partners Brandt Snedeker and Jim Furyk.

It was this time last year that Zach Johnson caught fire, finishing second to Pettersson here before filling the same position at the Players and then winning the Crown Plaza Invitational in May.

Johnson has a mixed record at Hilton Head but has some impressive rounds to his name, indeed the course suits on paper and he should be full of confidence following last year’s result. Back him to outscore Bill Haas and KJ Choi.

Martin Kaymer hasn’t played at Hilton Head before but it’s fair to assume he will be better suited by this week’s test than the one he faced at Augusta – Kaymer’s struggles with drawing the ball and his low ball flight have been well documented.

However, the German put in an impressive week’s work at Augusta to register a career best Masters finish of 35th. For that reason he has become a tempting betting proposition at a course that looks right up his street. Playing partners are Russell Henley, who suffered a terrible second round to miss the cut at Augusta, and Scott Brown, who has missed the last two cuts after his surprise early season form.
