LAST week Adam Hadwin managed to throw away a three-shot lead with 6 to play and finished tied 2nd. So an each-way payout and a top-10 finish ensured a small profit on the tournament.
The USPGA Tour event this year has drawn a high-class field which is played over the North Course and the South Course.
After the cut the final two rounds are played on the South which has hosted 2 US Open’s so it will be a stern task over the weekend. The South Course is one of the longest at close to 7,700 yards while the North is slightly shorter at 7,250 yards.
Justin Rose and Jon Rahm head the field but with the likes of McIlroy, Spieth and Woods also in the field it should be a classic tournament.
Our three for this week are as follows:
Gary Woodland
On top of his game, Woodland appears to be in contention every week and should have won in Hawaii recently when finishing 2nd to Schaufelle (who shot a 62 to win), this was the 7th time he held a 54 hole lead and failed to win.
This week could be the week he finally closes out a tournament.
Jason Day
Day won this twice and finished in the top 10 twice in the last 6 years so his course knowledge is second to none.
He had a mixed year last year but finished the season well after his family problems. An encouraging start to this year so this week may see him in contention again
Xander Schaufelle
Schaufelle is a local boy who has not had the best of luck in this tournament having missed the cut in each of the last three years. He's playing a lot better and with more confidence since then so can be in the frame this week.
Normal stakes 1 pt EW and 1 pt win on Top 10 finish.
