Well here it is folks, this is definitely my final preview for 2022 as we sign off with this week's Mauritius Open at the Mont Choisy Le Golf, Grand Baie, Mauritius.

This is an event co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and also the Sunshine Tour. If I’m being honest here, I don’t have a clue who half of this field is so I’ll concentrate on the players I do know.

I don’t usually like getting involved with these events but since it’s Christmas and since you’ve all been so good all year, I thought I’d try and finish the year with another winner for you all. We are currently on 14 outright winners this year, its the exact same amount as last year so let’s see if we can finish the year on a high and single out our 15th outright winner in 2022 to help you all buy those Christmas presents or help with those extortionate energy bills at he moment.

I’m also going to take this opportunity to thank you all kindly for all the nice comments, messages, DMs, likes etc throughout the year. It’s what makes it all worthwhile knowing that so many of you are following my tips and consistently collecting from the bookies .

I just want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2023 and on that note let’s get back to this week’s Mauritius Open.

If you have followed me throughout the season and had success with my selections. I would be really grateful if you could take the time to retweet the post below. It helps me massively. Thank you and Merry Xmas.

The 156 field with the top 65 including ties making the cut will all be competing for a share of the €1M prize purse with the winner collecting the Mauritius Open title and a winners cheque for €166,660.

Rasmus Hojgaard was the last winner at this event in 2019 but will not be in attendance to defend his crown this year.

Mont Choisy Le Golf will be playing 7,050 yards long this week, it’s a par 72 parkland track where the key to success will definitely involve negotiating the weather conditions along with power and precision.

The weather in Mauritius is forecast to be sunny and warm from start to finish as we all embrace the big freeze at home. Breezes are expected to peak at around 20mph , definitely enough for concern around here.

This event will be screened on Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 8.30 am on Thursday morning.

So let’s crack on with our final predictions for 2022 and try narrow down the likely winner at this week's Mauritius Open.

Antoine Rozner 16/1 EW Bet365

For my first and main selection, I’m going to point you all in the direction of Antoine Rozner 16/1 EW Bet365.

The 29-year-old Frenchman from Paris could be celebrating a double whammy this Sunday evening with a victory and the talented French football squad could also lift the World Cup in Qatar just as they did in their homeland last time out in 2018. Rozner is without a W in 2022 but does have ten Top 20 finishes this year with four of those being inside the Top 10.

The two-time DP World Tour Champ was 8th at the Portugal Masters, 5th at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain, 4th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and 4th also at the Omega European Masters.

On the stats front the figures that stick out for Rozner are probably the most important.

On the DP World Tour this year Rozner ranks 6th for Greens in Regulation and if he arrives in Mauritius producing those figures then he could make this look like a walk in the park.

Now without being disrespectful here and most certainly I’m not, I’m just being truthful when I say as mentioned above that I haven’t heard of most of these golfers so this should open the door for Rozner to power on and collect his first victory in 2022.

He has what most in this field can only dream about, not one but two DP World Tour crowns when scooping the Golf in Dubai Championship in 2020 and the Qatar Masters in 2021.

I just have a feeling that Antoine Rozner is going to make it three successive years with a victory, he’s left it late but better late than never when he is crowned the Mauritius Open Champ on Sunday evening along with his football team in Qatar.

Laurie Canter 18/1 EW Bet365

For my next best selection I’m going to single out Laurie Canter 18/1 EW Bet365. The 33-year-old Englishman from Bath is another who I feel can take advantage of the not-so-star-studded field this week with none of the World's Top 50 on show in Mauritius. With a recent 3rd place finish last time out at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa, he could be the one they all have to beat in Mauritius this weekend.

Canter has only played at eighteen events in 2022 but has seven finishes inside the Top 30. He also finished 3rd at the Catalunya Championship and played in two majors this year where he made the cut at both the 150th Open Championship and also the US PGA Championship where he finished inside the Top 50.

The Englishman arrives here with probably the best bag of stats in this field. Check this out if I haven't already convinced you .

On the DP World Tour this year Laurie Canter ranks 4th in Putts Per GIR, 3rd in Greens in Regulation and better still 2nd Stroke Average at 68.25. Still seeking that elusive maiden title, I reckon now is as good a time as any for Laurie Canter to finally break that duck when he goes home with the best Christmas present ever with the Mauritius Open trophy safely wrapped up in the bag.

Tom McKibben 35/1 EW BetFred

For my final outright selection for 2022 I'm going to suggest the young new kid on the block that everyone’s talking about but doesn’t seem to know much about Tom McKibben 35/1 EW BetFred. The 19-year-old Irish teenage sensation has just secured his DP World Tour card for 2023 and believe me when I say you are going to hear much more about this kid in the coming months not years.

He could easily follow in the footsteps of his hero Rory McIlroy who incidentally comes from the same town and also plays at the same Holywood golf club in Northern Ireland.

This talented kid already has more Top 20 finishes on the DP World Tour than most in this field and has only to date entered half a dozen or so events .18th at the Joburg Open, the 15th at the South African Championship and the 13th at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.

Again with such a weak field this week, this could be the perfect opportunity for young Tom McKibben to lay his marker with many more to follow for sure. The weather conditions will play a part this week and it could be ideal for young Tom who is more than used to playing in breezes to make this look much easier than it actually is around here.

It’s his birthday this coming Monday when he turns 20 and with Christmas just around the corner, it could be a double bonanza for Tom McKibben as he enjoys the best year of his young life when he becomes a DP World Tour Maiden winner this Sunday afternoon. It’s the luck of the Irish, how many times will we say this about Tom McKibben in the years ahead .

For my final selection, it’s the customary match bet and for this week's Nap which has been so kind to us all year I’m going to stick with Laurie Canter with his bag of stats to comfortably beat Jayden Schaper over 72 holes, 8/11 Bet365.

Good luck with your selections and once again thank you kindly for sticking with me for another year.

Mauritius Open Best Picks

  • Antoine Rozner 16/1 EW Bet365
  • Laurie Canter 18/1 EW Bet365
  • Tom McKibben 35/1 EW BetFred
  • NAP: Laurie Canter to beat Jayden Schaper over 72 holes, 8/11 Bet365.

Merry Christmas, and see you all in the 2023 Golfing season.
