The DP World Tour resumes after a three week lay-off with the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain at the Lakes Course, Infinitum, Tarragona, Spain.
The 156 field (top 65 inc ties making the cut) will all be competing for a share of the $2m prize purse with the winner collecting the title and $333,400.
This Greg Norman designed Lakes Course is playing short at 6,963 yards. It’s a par 70, parkland track with water coming into play on thirteen holes so accuracy will be key.
The weather is forecast to be cloudy with rain & the threat of thunderstorms but some clear sunny intervals in between from Thursday to Saturday. Sunday’s forecast looks much better with a nice warm day but winds are expected to peak at 29mph especially on Saturday.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 1pm on Thursday.
Pablo Larrazabal
For my first selection on this weeks DP World Tour event I’m going to single out Pablo Larrazabal 28/1 EW Bet365.
The 38 year old from Barcelona is a native to these parts and this title could well go to one of the locals. Larrazabal comes here brimming with confidence after his recent win at the MyGolfLife Open and could be the one they all have to beat.
He also has four Top 10 finishes at the last five attempts which include 5th last time out at the Qatar Masters, 3rd at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic and 6th at the Saudi International.
With six DP World Titles already in the bag, Larrazabal is under no pressure in his own backyard and can do a Scottie Scheffler with a case of catch me if you can.
Adri Arnaus
For my next pick I’m going to advise Adri Arnaus 25/1 EW Bet365.
The 27 year old, also from Barcelona is another who returns home with a good run of form. I’m going to forget about the missed cut last time out at the Qatar Masters and focus on the four Top 10 finishes in the four events previous.
Runner-up at the MyGolfLife Open, T8th at the Magical Kenya Open, T9th at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic and 3rd at the Saudi International. One thing for sure is that not many in this large field can boast that kind of form.
Added to that, the fact Arnaus is playing in front of his home crowd then that could well be the winning formula that finally see’s Adri Arnaus crowned with his maiden DP World Title.
Connor Syme
For my next selection I’m going to look for some good old value and for that reason I’m liking the look of Connor Syme 60/1 EW Skybet 1-7 places.
The 26 year old Scot from Kirkcaldy in Fife doesn’t admittedly come here in with a rich vein of form but this could be as good a chance as any for Syme to win that maiden title.
The young Scot can also use the conditions to his advantage with the wind predicted to peak at around 30mph so it could all be set up for Connor Syme's game this week in Spain. He was out for a little while with an injury problem but will take confidence from a recent 6th place finish at the Ras Al Khaimah Classic.
He clearly enjoys playing his golf in Spain where he has been challenging on so many occasions and has a few Top 10 finishes including 5th at the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open last year.
It would be an amazing weekend for the young Fifer to break that duck on the DP World Tour if he can return home with the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain in the bag.
Pablo Larrazabal v Joachim B Hansen
For my final selection it’s the customary matchbet and this week I’ll point you in the direction of my main selection Pablo Larrazabal to beat Joachim B Hansen over 72 holes 10/11 Nap Betfair.
