The DP World Tour remains in Spain this week with the Andalucia Masters at Real Club Valderrama, Sotogrande, Spain.
The 124 field will all be competing for a share of the €3M prize purse with the winner collecting the Andalucia Masters title and a winner’s cheque for €485,300.
Matt Fitzpatrick returns to defend his title and is the clear short-priced 5/1 favourite to do just that this time around. Last year Fitzy’s winning scorecard read 278, -6.
Real Club Valderrama will be playing 7,028 yards long this week. It’s a par 71 parkland venue where the key to success will be Greens in Regulation setting up rare easy birdie opportunities..
I’ve already posted my preview for this week's Zozo Championship in Japan so be sure to have a look at our selections for this week's PGA event.
The weather in Valderrama is forecast to be mainly warm and sunny throughout with some cloudy intervals. Breezes will peak at around 15mph for Sunday's final round.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main Event with live coverage starting at 1 pm on Thursday afternoon.
So let’s move on with this week's Andalucia Masters betting tips.
Matthew Fitzpatrick 11/2 EW 1-6 places William Hill
For my first and main prediction at Real Club Valderrama I'm going to again do something I try to avoid and single out the clear favourite Matthew Fitzpatrick 11/2 EW 1-6 places William Hill. For all of you who follow my selections on a weekly basis, you’ll all know I very rarely include the favourite as mostly I don’t see any value but my job is to pick winners and it wouldn’t be fair if I allowed the price to put me off whilst giving out my best advice to help everyone.
I tipped Jon Rahm to win the Open de Espana in Madrid, not only did I advise him as my main tip but I also made him my Nap and predicted that he’d win it in a canter which he did. The 28-year-old from the steel city of Sheffield is a class act and he could do a Jon Rahm this weekend at Valderrama. Fitzy has done the business for us already this year when scooping the US Open at The County Club.
I tipped him to win his first major & maiden PGA breakthrough victory at 30/1 and he certainly didn’t disappoint by doing it in style. Fitzpatrick has only played at twenty-one events this year but fourteen of those attempts have been Top 20 finishes with eleven of those being inside the Top 10. I’m going to give you some of Fitzy’s PGA Tour figures for any doubters or for those who don’t like backing favourites.
On the PGA Tour this year Fitzy is ranked 10th SG Off the Tee, 10th Longest Drive,7th SG Around the Green,6th Sand Save Percentage,3rd Scoring Average,2nd SG Total, 1st Scrambling from the Rough and 1st Scrambling.
That’s phenomenal figures and without being disrespectful to the DPWT, it’s also at PGA events with star-studded fields playing amongst the world elite. Listen I’ll take flak from all directions for those who think the price is too skinny and think I’m being a tad safe but again as already pointed out, my job is to pick winners so what are you waiting for, hurry up and get on Matt Fitzpatrick to successfully defend his Andalucia Masters crown, it won’t be in a canter but he should prevail this weekend in Valderrama and fight of all challengers.
Robert MacIntyre 22/1 EW 1-8 place’s Ladbrokes
For my next best tip I’m going to single out one of our very own homegrown talents, Robert MacIntyre 22/1 EW 1-8 place’s Ladbrokes. The 26-year-old from the Gateway to the Highlands has had yet another remarkable year and it’s been a pleasure watching this talented kid at times.
With another trophy added to the cabinet this year when bagging the Italian Open just a matter of weeks ago, I think it’s fair to say it’s been progress for this wonder boy from Oban.
Bob is another who hasn’t entered as many events as most on this Tour but that’s most probably because he has the luxury to do so and play on both the PGA and DP World Tours including majors. To be able to do this means you need to be of a certain calibre but this kid has already proved his credentials with two DPWT Titles already in the bag, the other being the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown in 2020.
Almost half of Bob's efforts this year have been inside the Top 20 at worst and this kind of venue should almost certainly suit his game.
If Bob can produce some of his long straight ball hitting skills along with sublime scrambling around the greens then he could be well on his way to the winners enclosure yet again with a hattrick of DP World crowns, his second in as many months .
Callum Shinkwin 55/1 EW 10Bet
For my next suggestion, I’m going to point you all in the direction of Callum Shinkwin 55/1 EW 10Bet. I’m always on the hunt for value and with some firms offering as little as 33/1 for the 29yrs old from Watford, that’s quite a difference and some of these firms may have a good reason to be weary come Sunday afternoon. Some may have forgotten that Callum Shinkwin has what most in this field can only dream about, not one but two DP World Tour crowns including one this year just like Oor Bob above .
Winner at the recent Cazoo Open and also the winner in 2020 at the Aphrodite Cyprus Hills Showdown, Shinkwin is inside the World's Top 100 ranked players for a reason. Last time out he was spectacular finishing runner up at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship across three Links Courses in Scotland, The Old Course, St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns, that’s golf at its toughest, especially with the tricky weather conditions.
Long straight Drives Off the Tee could be key this week in Valderrama and who better to rely on to smack it straight down the middle than Callum Shinkwin as he Masters the Andalucia Masters on his way to victory on Sunday afternoon in Spain?
My advice is to take the 55/1 while it’s available safe in the knowledge that a place will return a tidy profit .
For my final bet it’s the customary match bet and for this week's Nap at Real Club Valderrama I’m going to advise Rasmus Hojgaard to beat Thomas Detry over 72 holes 5/6 Nap Bet365.
