THE Victoria Clube de Golfe Course in Vilamoura is again this year’s host for the Portugal Masters, the 10th year in a row.
With the Final Series coming up there is plenty to play for those in with a chance of getting into the lucrative finish to the season.
Last week’s winner Alex Noren and Ryder Cup hero Thomas Pieters are standouts for this but at single-figure prices I think I’ll leave them out.
With five top-15 finishes in his last five starts Tommy Fleetwood looks to have got back to the form that brought him to my notice last year.
His tied fourth finish at the British Masters last week included three sub-70 rounds and he looked good until he bogeyed three of the final six holes.
He has GIR stats of 72.22% (24th), scrambling 53.1% and perhaps the one problem he has is his putting with an average of 30.4. Some might think his price is a bit short but should be in there come Sunday.
One youngster who has impressed over the last few months is Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren. In the Dunhill he had four sub-70 rounds, finishing fourth, and last week at the British Masters had bad 75 in the first round but followed that up by 65, 66 and 69 for a T18 finish. His GIR is 65.7%, scrambling 54.2% and putting per round of 28.8 certainly holds up well and is well worth a wager.
