ANOTHER year, another dollar. Let's see if we can make some this season.
First up is the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in the first of the “Desert Swing” tournaments with a stellar field which includes world No.3 Henrik Stenson, Phil Mickelson (4), Rory McIlroy (6) and Sergia Garcia (10).
This is the first tournament of the season for most of these players but there are a few who played in South Africa last week and before Christmas.
One of these is Branden Grace who has competed in the last two tournaments, was runner-up to Louis Oosthuizen last week and looks in good form.
With two top-10 finishes in the last two tournaments he looks a solid each-1ay bet. His driving accuracy wasn’t too hot last year but hopefully he has got that sorted with his last two results.
One guy I think is heading for a good season is Garcia. He had a steady season last year and looked to be back to his best in his last few tournaments. He finished tied second to Thomas Bjorn in the Newbank Challenge at Sun City in December and I think he will go close this week.
Another worth a flutter is Joost Luiten who finished joint third behind Oosthuizen last week with four solid rounds. His driving accuracy last year was over 71 per cent, the best he’s had in four years and greens in regulation was over 74 per cent so very steady golf.
One man I can’t leave out is McIlroy. He finished last year’s Race to Dubai with two top-10 finishes then rounded it all off with his first win of the season in the Australian Open.
He’s been runner-up in Dubai in seasons 2011 and 2012 and only once outside the top 11 in the past six appearances. Rory says the course suits his eye and being a long course has to hit it well off the tee and take advantage of the long par fives which he thinks he can.
Recommended Bets (15pt staking plan)
Branden Grace 2.5pts ew (30-1, bet365)
Sergio Garcia 2pts ew (10-1, Ladbrokes)

Mr F… How about Victor Rui @ 949/1 e/w with Betfair? Had some good finishes last year and was unlucky in the Nelson Mandela championship as he was going great guns before the bad weather came and ruined most players rounds. In fact he never dropped a shot over the first 28 holes. It could be a nice little cash out with betfair if he can produce the same form over the first few days.
Historically its the big players who normally win this event, but @ 949/1 I’m hopeful Victor Rui will give me a run for my money.
I compiled my golf tips last night, before reading this post. In Abu Dhabi I’m leaving out Rory and Henrik as they are too short priced, and Joost Luiten whom I know nothing about. I bet 10 pts. per tourney, this week 8 on Humana and 12 on Abu Dhabi. Here goes:
Abu Dhabi –
M. Kaymer 2 pts. EW 14/1
B. Grace 1 pt. EW 28/1
T. Bjorn 1 pt. EW 22/1
P. Casey 1 pt. EW 33/1
C. Wood 0.5 pts. EW 66/1
J. Quesne 0.5 pts. EW 100/1
Humana –
R. Palmer 1 pt. EW
C. Hoffman 1 pt. EW
K. Na 0.75 pts. EW
J. Senden 0.75 pts. EW
J. Leonard 0.5 pts. EW
Prices are at PP, as I live in Ireland and can walk to both Paddy and Boyle. Paddy pays 6 places, Boyle only 5. You can find better prices online, especially on Na, Senden, Quesne and Wood.
Please note he isnt this price anymore. only 300/1 now.
You have to take prices on the golf about 3 days before it kicks off for the big odds with Betfair, otherwise the price falls like crazy!
Ricardo, from my experience betting on golf before Tuesday evening is VERY risky. Players are only announced on Monday, sometimes they are out of form plus weather changes can dictate who might play better etc. I like to allow a day or so for the good tipsters to do all their hard work research etc. and I find I get decent prices betting on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Prices almost always fluctuate (in the bookies’ favour) Wednesday and Thursday. I have been profitable betting on golf for the last 2 years, and looking forward to another one in 2014. Good Luck All.
Gotta be kaymer @ 14/1 ! 3 times a winner a 2nd and a 6th in recent years at this event . Need I say more ?? Track suits forms good $$$$$$$$$ Ching Ching :)
Oh, MrF/Ace – I think Rory Mc is a great tip also. He’s really on form at the moment after a rocky 2013. I just left him out in attempt to get better value on other players, mainly Kaymer.
Any body know if Rory mcllroy got chance of winning?
HSBC Abhu Dhabi Championship.
Henrick Stenson 8/1 William Hill
Martin Kaymer 16/1 William Hill
Tickety boo, you put both of them for e/w?
Matt Prosser, alot of people agree that Rory has a good chance of winning. He is more focused this year, seems to have grown up a little bit. I would pick him over Stenson, but then again that’s a tough decision. matt p, the bookies pay 1/4 odds up to 5 or six places in golf, so anything over 4-1 pays off each way. 8-1 and 16-1 are definitely worth backing each way. Your player could be leading until the final couple of holes, then bogey a couple times or lose in a playoff and your win-only bet goes out the window.
Hi Paddy, I understand that anti-post betting can be a bit dodgy, but the prices you can get on golf early doors out weighs the risk I feel. This was poven when we took Maximillion Kieffer last year at a massive early bird price. He actually finished 2nd after a hole play-off.
Fook knows how he lost in all fairness :(
9 hole play off lol
@Ricardo … Yep, I know that feeling, had Angel Cabrera at over 100/1 when he came second in the Masters after a playoff last year.
My selections for this are
Sergio Garcia
and each way on David Howell.
David showed some signs of recapturing his past form and will be available at 100/1 and over for the first few tournaments.
Hi Every one
so my form so far predicted webb simpson each way at 9s finished in the top 4 predicted jerry Kelly at 150-1 finished in top 4 and also loked Chris Kirk 55-1 same venue finished top 4 here are my tips and reasons
abi dhabi first
Pablo Larrazabal e/w 125-1
two-time winner on the European Tour and finished 2013 in fine form.
last six tournaments,finished T9-T17-T8-T5-53-T26,
great at putting
Sergio Garcia 9-1 win
has 25 professional tour wins
In five starts at the Abu Dhabi Championship he is yet to finish outside the top-15
Bernd Wiesberger 50-1 e/w
The Austrian missed only two cuts all year making him one of the most consistent players on tour
putting and hitting are solid and abu dhabi should suit
last of all
Peter Uhilein 70-1
one of my favourite golfers on the tour. winning his first European Tour title at the Madeira Islands Open, finishing 14th in the Race to Dubai list with eight top-10 finishes and also claiming The Rookie of the Year title. So 70/1 seems pretty generous all things considered.
big hitting off the tee, and if he can start firing this week, he could contend
best of the rest see previous posts
humana
Nicholas Thomson 300-1 ew
3 courses where outsiders can thrive,
his record in the Humana Challenge is good. Last year he finished T6, bettering his previous high of T12 in 2008.
Daniel Summerhays.110-1 ew
Last year he finished T27 18-under par; finished T11 in 2011.
T4 at the John Deere Classic and 2nd in the sanderson farm championship
Brian Stuard quoted at 55-1 ew
8th in the FedEx Cup standings and has finished second and sixth in his last two tournaments.
Stuard finished T10 at the Humana last year
and lastly
William McGirt massive longshot but could well pull a surprise and at 200-1 is worth a small punt feeling in my water on this one
best of luck
Interesting tips and reasoning Paul. Hopefully we all bag at least a couple of places this weekend. Good Luck!
Kaymer banker each way. Like printing money,,,, get on toe head. Two out of two tips I have since been on web site
Luiten, Casey, Grace and Wiesberger
In America
Kokrak, Na, Gay, Goosen, Palmer and Cink
Haven’t posted my golf tips for a while but agree with Mr F
No.1 Rory McIlroy
Legal dispute is now over and he his happy with his new Nike equipment. Now engaged to Caroline Wozniacki, he can now focus 100% on his golf
Late last year he was 8th in USPGA, 6TH in WGC, 5TH in Dubai and then beat Adam Scott in a play-off in the Australian Open
Superb course record. 2nd in 2012 with a 2 shot penalty, 2nd in 2011 and 3rd in 2010 (missed cut last year but his head was spinning)
Has been practising harder than ever and I expect him to win on a course that suits him
No 2 SERGIO
Ended last year 4th in WGC and 2nd in Nedbank.
Crucially his claw putting grip is working well and his long game is in very good shape. Loved up with his girlfriend who caddied for him in Thailand last year
‘I love starting my season in Abu Dhabi as I feel comfortable here’
All sets up for a very good week for The Spaniard
USA thoughts/selections later….
12000/1 double. Daniel summer hays and Pablo larrazebel good luck
I like a daft double on the golf as well Paul, this week it’s Aphibarnrat and Horschel. Aphibarnrat is a pure birdie machine but sadly throws in a double bogie or two. Even i can do that. I’m also with you in liking Uhilein, not this week though. I normally do a Uhilein and Speith double but Speith must be resting this week. A bit frustrating when one misses the cut, Sometimes bet with a round to go, tend to get decent odds. Last season Ken Duke came in at 33/1 on the Sunday. Good luck all
USA selections:
1. W Simpson
2. H English
3. B Horschell
4. G Woodland
Also considered K Na
