Hoffenheim v Hannover (Fri 7.30pm)
Hoffenheim are ending the season with a bang. Results have started to match up with performances, with RB Leipzig destroyed 5-2 at home by Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
That was a stunning result, not least because it saw Hoffenheim leapfrog Leipzig in the race for the Champions League places when two months ago they weren’t even contenders.
Ex-Arsenal midfielder and Bayern loanee Serge Gnabry has been instrumental of late, having scored seven goals in as many games.
The victory in Leipzig made it eight unbeaten as they look to finish in the Bundesliga’s top four for the second season running.
They have the chance to put the pressure on Leverkusen, with a win against Hannover taking them into the top four at least until Leverkusen face Stuttgart on Saturday.
Their opponents have not covered themselves in glory in the second half of the season though. Hannover have picked up just 13 points from 14 games as a campaign which started promisingly has fizzled out.
Injuries of late to key players such as Waldemar Anton haven’t helped and they are still technically in the relegation shakeup, with Wolfsburg, Mainz and Freiburg, in the relegation playoff spot, all six points below them.
It’s difficult to see all three of them climbing above Hannover before the season’s out but given that they’re 10 games without an away win, another Hoffenheim victory is likely here.
