As is quite often the case, Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Dutch second-tier and I reckon we could see an entertaining encounter between the top two.

PEC Zwolle vs Heracles Almelo

🇳🇱 Eerste Divisie

⏰ Friday 14th October, 19:00

The top two in the Eerste Divisie meet on Friday night, as league leaders Heracles travel to the MAC³PARK Stadion to take on second-placed PEC Zwolle.

PEC Zwolle began the season in scintillating form by winning six and drawing one of their opening seven league fixtures. However, Dick Schreuder’s side have since gone on to collect just a solitary point from their next three matches – losing 3-0 away at lowly Dordrecht last Friday night. The Blauwvingers have now failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their previous seven, conceding a total of 13 goals in that run. That loss at Dordrecht last time out was the first time Zwolle have failed to net this season, and only Heracles have scored more than their tally of 24.

For the second consecutive Friday, Heracles brought up my Football Bet of the Day as they defeated De Graafschap 3-2 despite being pegged back twice. John Lammers’ men have now won each of their last five matches in the Eerste Divisie, putting them five points clear of both PEC Zwolle and MVV. The Almelo-based club are the top-scoring side in the Dutch second tier, netting 27 goals in their opening 10 league fixtures. Heracles have only kept two clean sheets in their last seven matches, letting in a total of 12 goals in that run.

Bet of the Day

PEC Zwolle will look to end their three-match winless run but face a tough task at home to table-toppers Heracles, who come into this fixture winning each of their last five. These two clubs are the top-scoring teams in the division, and with neither side particularly tight at the back, I’m expecting an open encounter full of goals.

Dick Schreuder’s hosts have found the back of the net in all bar one of their opening 10 league fixtures – scoring on 24 occasions – and they will look to trouble a Heracles defence that’s conceded 12 goals in their last seven. John Lammers’ visitors are the division's top scorers and have remarkably scored on multiple occasions in 9/10 of their league fixtures this season, and they’ll look to do the same against a Zwolle defence that’s conceded 13 goals and failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven matches. 18/20 of the pair’s collective matches this season have seen at least three goals, and we should see at least another three here with both teams contributing.
