Portuguese champions Sporting CP get their Champions League campaign underway on Tuesday as they welcome French side Lille to the Estádio José Alvalade in a fixture that I’m keen to back the in-form hosts.
Sporting CP clinched their 20th Primeira Liga crown by finishing a whole 10 points clear of city-rivals Benfica last season, and the capital club have made the perfect start to regaining their crown this term.
Rúben Amorim’s men currently sit top of the Primeira Liga, three points clear of second-placed Porto after making it five wins from five – including a 2-0 victory at home to The Dragons – scoring a staggering 19 goals in the process.
New Lille manager Bruno Génésio’ has already seen his side play in Europe this season, as they knocked Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce out of the Champions League third qualifying round 3-2 on aggregate before squeezing past Slavia Prague by the same scoreline over two legs in the playoff round to qualify for the new Champions League league-phase.
Domestically, Les Dogues won their opening two Ligue 1 contests away at Reims and at home to newly-promoted Angers – both without conceding – but were then defeated 1-3 at home to champions PSG, before losing 1-0 away at a previously pointless and goalless Saint Étienne side which downed last Friday’s ‘Bet of the Day’.

As alluded to, Sporting have made a flying start to the campaign, winning each of their opening five Primeira Liga matches, scoring an impressive 19 goals in the process.
Since the beginning of last season, The Lions have a record of W25-D2-L1 at home in all competitions – notching on multiple occasions in 24 (96%) of those victories – and I’m backing the free-scoring hosts to win and to score at least twice against a Lille side that has lost each of their previous three matches, conceding six goals across those defeats.
