Two clubs in contrasting form in the Western Conference meet at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night/ Sunday morning as new leaders San Diego travel to home-sick FC Dallas in a fixture that I’m keen to back the in-form visitors to strike at least twice.
After putting an end to their six-match winless run with a 2-4 victory at Sporting KC 11 days before, FC Dallas failed to capitalise on that, as they were beaten at home by the San Jose Earthquakes by the same scoreline last time out.
That result continued The Toros' struggles on home soil, with Eric Quill’s men picking up just five points from a possible 24 (W1-D2-L5), the joint-second lowest tally across the entire MLS.
What a terrific previous couple of match days for San Diego FC, as first they climbed above Minnesota United into second place in the Western Conference table with a thumping 1-4 victory away to The Loons, before then leapfrogging the Vancouver Whitecaps at the top with a 3-5 success at BC Place.
Mikey Varas’s men have now won seven and lost just one of their previous nine MLS matches (W7-D1-L1), and will be confident of claiming their fourth victory from their last five away from home against their struggling hosts.

Mikey Varas’s visitors are the second-highest scorers across the entire MLS, firing in 38 goals across their opening 19 matches, with 19 (50%) of them coming on their travels.
SDFC have scored 2+ goals in 12 (63%) of their MLS contests this season, including in seven of their last nine and 10 of their past 14 – as well as in 6/9 (67%) of their road trips – and I’m backing their in-form attack to bag another double away to a Dallas defence that has shipped multiple goals in six of their previous nine MLS clashes.
