After making it successive winners in Huddersfield and Florence the last two nights, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the match at Anfield and I’m expecting goals and cards.
⚽️ Liverpool vs Brighton & Hove Albion
??????? Premier League
⏰ Sunday 31st March, 14:00
With both their title rivals going head-to-head at The Etihad in the late kick-off on Sunday, Liverpool will look to go top of the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon as they welcome poor-travelling Brighton to fortress Anfield in a fixture that appeals to me for both goals and cards.
Liverpool came back from the international break sitting in 2nd position, behind Arsenal only on goal difference following their 1-1 draw at home to fellow title-rivals Manchester City in their previous Premier League outing three weeks ago. That draw against City preserved their unbeaten record at Anfield in the Premier League this season, with The Reds posting a record of W11-D3-L0, with their three draws coming against Arsenal (1st), Manchester City (3rd) and Manchester United (6th).
Brighton stretched their unbeaten run at home in the Premier League to 12 last time out, as they claimed a 1-0 victory over relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest to leave them in 8th position, 14 points outside of the top four. Roberto De Zebri’s visitors have struggled on their travels in recent months, with The Seagulls picking up just nine points from their previous 12 road trips (W2-D3-L7), with their solitary victory across their last eight coming in that 0-5 thrashing of rock-bottom Sheffield United.
Bet of the Day
Jürgen Klopp’s hosts are the second-highest scorers in the Premier League, scoring 65 goals across their opening 28 matches, with 38 (58%) of them coming on home soil. Only Manchester United have prevented Liverpool from scoring at Anfield in the league this season – with The Reds scoring two or more in 11/14 (79%) of them and three or more in 10 (71%) of them – and I’m backing them to bag another double at home against a Brighton defence that has recorded just two clean sheets away from home in the Premier League this season, shipping multiple goals in eight of their previous 12.
To nudge the price up, I’m happy to throw in The Seagulls receiving two or more cards. Roberto De Zebri’s visitors have been carded in 25/28 (89%) of their Premier League outings this campaign, earning two or more in 13/14 (93%) of their away matches, whilst The Reds have drawn a card from all bar one of their Premier League opponents this season, with 12/14 (86%) of their visitors to the Anfield receiving multiple cards.
