Football Bet of the Day

Looking to return to winning ways falling a Flekkeroy goal short on Saturday, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the MLS, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Philadelphia Union vs Charlotte FC

🇺🇸 MLS

⏰ Sunday 15 June, 00:30

Eastern Conference leaders Philadelphia Union welcome Charlotte to Subaru Park in the early hours of Sunday morning in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Bradley Carnell’s hosts have fired in 32 goals across their opening 17 MLS matches this term, with 20 (63%) of them coming in front of their supporters.

The Union have failed to score in just one of their opening nine MLS clashes on home soil – notching on multiple occasions in each of their past five – and will look to keep up their excellent goal-scoring run of form at home against a Charlotte backline that has shipped 2+ goals in six of their previous seven MLS outings, including in four of their last five and five of their past seven away from home.

Ex-Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has seen his side score 28 goals across their opening 17 MLS encounters this season, with 11 (61%) of them coming on their travels.

The Crown have failed to score just three times in the MLS this campaign – finding the target in each of their last seven and 10 of their past 12 – and will look to trouble a Union backline that has shipped eight goals across their last three MLS contests on home soil.

Bet of the Day

The Union’s opening nine fixtures in the MLS at home this campaign have averaged 3.44 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in seven (78%) of them, whilst five (56%) have seen goals at both ends, including their past three.

Charlotte’s opening 17 MLS matches this campaign have averaged 3.24 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 10 (59%) of them – including in six of their last seven and seven of their past nine – whilst six of their previous seven have also seen goals at both ends.

Given both sides' form in front of goal and their defensive vulnerabilities, I’m more than happy to back three or more match goals, with both teams contributing.
