After making it back-to-back winners in Germany on Friday, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me delve into the EFL, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection involving one of the teams.
⚽️ Sheffield Wednesday vs Luton Town
🏴 Championship
⏰ Saturday 1 February, 15:00
Two clubs in contrasting form in the Championship meet at Hillsborough tomorrow afternoon as playoff-chasing Sheffield Wednesday entertain struggling Luton in a fixture that I’m keen to get the hosts on side.
Sheffield Wednesday put a halt to their three-match winless run last weekend, as they secured a 0-2 win away at in-form QPR to move up to 10th in the table, just three points outside the playoff places.
The Owls have lost just one of their previous eight Championship fixtures on home soil (W3-D4-L1), and have won all three of their meetings at Hillsborough against teams positioned in 20th and below by an aggregate score of 10-2.
Luton’s winless run was extended to seven matches last time out (W0-D1-L6), as they fell to a 0-1 defeat at home to London rivals Millwall which leaves them in 23rd position in the Championship table, three points adrift of safety.
The Hatters' away form has been abysmal this season, picking up just four points from their opening 14 road trips (W1-D1-L12), remarkably losing each of their previous 12.
Bet of the Day
Couple of ways to approach this match, but given Sheffield Wednesday aren’t exactly watertight at the back, I’m opting to back them to Score Over 1.5 Goals instead of the win.
Danny Rohl’s hosts are the joint fourth-highest scorers in the Championship this term, slamming in 42 goals across their opening 29 matches, with 24 (57%) of them coming on home soil.
The Owls have scored 2+ goals in seven of their last nine and nine of their past 13 Championship outings – including each of their previous four on home soil – and I’m backing them to bag another double at home to a Luton side that has lost each of their last 11 Championship fixtures on the road, shipping multiple goals in 10 (91%) of them.
- Sheffield Wednesday to Score Over 1.5 Goals
- Pays 13/10 (William Hill)
