Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into the English third-tier and there’s a side I like the look of to keep up their impressive recent form at home to a side that tend to struggle on their travels.
Sheffield Wednesday vs Accrington Stanley
🏴 League 1
⏰ Tuesday 15th March, 19:45
Sheffield Wednesday will look to continue their promotion push, as they host mid-table Accrington Stanley. The hosts come into this just a point outside the playoffs, whilst the visitors are 16 points above the relegation zone.
Sheffield Wednesday kept up their impressive recent form, as they thrashed Cambridge United 6-0 at Hillsborough. That result now means Sheffield Wednesday have won eight of their last 10 matches in League 1, scoring 23 goals. The key to Sheffield Wednesday’s impressive run of form is due to their strong home record, with The Owls winning seven of their last eight on home turf, scoring 21 goals. Only Sunderland have collected more points at home in League 1 this season, with Wednesday taking 40 points from a possible 54. Darren Moore’s side have found the back of the net in all-bad one of their home fixtures this season, only failing to score against league leaders Rotherham United.
Accrington Stanley extended their unbeaten run at home to nine last time out, as they defeated Charlton Athletic 2-1. John Coleman’s side have struggled on their travels though, with only the bottom-three collecting fewer points than the 12 they’ve collected (W3-D3-L11). All 12 of those points collected away from home have came against sides in the bottom-half, with Stanley losing all seven against top-half sides, conceding 18 times. Accrington come into this losing each of their last five in their travels, failing to score in each of their last four. Accrington have kept just four clean sheets on their travels this season, conceding two or more in 11/17 of them.
Bet of the Day
Sheffield Wednesday come into this winning eight of their last 10 in League 1 and will be confident of collecting another three points against poor-travels Accrington Stanley. John Coleman’s visitors have collected just 12 points away from home so far this season, losing all seven against top-half sides and I can see them suffering a similar fate against a Sheffield Wednesday side that’s lost twice at home this season and who have won seven of their last eight at Hillsborough. The Owls have scored 17 goals in their last five matches and given Stanley have conceded 11 goals in their last five matches away from home, I’m happy to add in the hosts to score at least twice alongside the home win.
