Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Nations League and I’ve selected two sides who should be too strong for their opponents to find the back of the net at least twice.

Luxembourg 🇱🇺 vs Turkey 🇹🇷

🇪🇺 Nations League

⏰ Saturday 11th June, 19:45

Two sides who’ve taken maximum points from their two Nations League fixtures go head-to-head at the Stade de Luxembourg, as Luxembourg play host to Turkey.

Luxembourg followed up their 0-2 success away to Lithuania, by edging past a Faroe Islands side that finished the match with nine-men 0-1 thanks to a 74th-minute Gerson Rodrigues penalty. Luc Holtz’s side finished in fourth position in their World Cup qualifying campaign, collecting nine points from their eight qualifiers, however, six of those points came against bottom side Azerbaijan, with the other coming against the Republic of Ireland. Luxembourg conceded a total of 18 goals in World Cup qualifying, with 13 of those coming in their four meetings with Portugal and Serbia.

Turkey followed up a routine 4-0 success over the Faroe Islands by hitting the Lithuanians for six on Tuesday evening in Vilnius. Stefan Kuntz’s side ultimately failed to qualify for this years World Cup following a 3-1 defeat against Portugal in their playoff semi-final, but the Turks had a strong World Cup qualifying campaign. Turkey collected 21 points from their 10 qualifiers (W6-D3-L1), with their sole defeat coming away to group winners the Netherlands. The Crescent-Stars scored 27 goals in World Cup qualifying, finding the back of the net in all 10 of their qualifiers, only failing to score on multiple occasions at home to Norway and away to the Dutch.

Netherlands 🇳🇱 vs Poland 🇵🇱

🇪🇺 Nations League

⏰ Saturday 11th June, 19:45

The Netherlands will look to maintain their 100% start in the Nations League in Rotterdam on Saturday evening, as they play host to Poland at de Kuip.

After opening their Nations League campaign with a 1-4 thrashing of near-neighbours Belgium, Wout Weghorst scored a 94th-minute winner to defeat Wales 1-2 in Cardiff on Wednesday night. Louis van Gaal’s side qualified for this years World Cup by finishing top of their qualifying group, taking 23 points from a possible 30 (W7-D2-L1). The Dutch found the back of the net in all 10 of their World Cup qualifiers, scoring on multiple occasions in eight of them. The Oranje scored a total of 33 goals in World Cup qualification, with 20 of them coming at home.

After coming from behind to defeat Wales 2-1 in their opening Nations League fixture, things were looking even better when Robert Lewandowski gave them 28th-minute lead in Brussels, however, they went on to lose 6-1 against the Belgians. Czestaw Michniewicz’s side defeated Sweden 2-0 in their playoff final to reach this years World Cup, after finishing second in their World Cup qualifying group, six points behind England. Whilst the Poles scored plenty of goals, they also struggled defensively, keeping just three clean in their 10 World Cup qualifiers and they came away to Albania and at home to minnows San Marino and Andorra. In total, The Eagles conceded 11 times, with eight of those coming in their four qualifiers against England and Hungary.

Bet of the Day

Both Luxembourg and Turkey have made perfect starts to their Nations League campaign but it’s Stefan Kuntz’s visitors I want to get onside here. As well as scoring 10 goals in their opening two Nations League fixtures, Turkey scored 27 times in World Cup qualification and I’m keen to back them to score another brace against a Luxembourg side that conceded 13 goals in their four World Cup qualifiers with Portugal and Serbia.
The Netherlands just about made it two wins from two at the start of their Nations League campaign and I can expect this free-scoring Dutch side to take advantage of this vulnerable Polish defence in Rotterdam this evening. Louis van Gaal’s side won all five of their World Cup qualifiers at home, scoring 20 times and I’m happy to back them to score at least twice against a Poland side that were hit for six away to Belgium on Wednesday night and who even conceded away to minnows San Marino and Andorra in World Cup qualifying.
