Football Bet of the Day: More goals expected in Missouri on Thursday
Football Bet of the Day

After returning to winning ways on Monday thanks to a high-scoring clash in Iceland, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the midweek MLS card, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Sporting Kansas City vs Charlotte FC

🇺🇸 MLS

⏰ Thursday 26 June, 01:30

Two clubs not in the best run of form in the MLS meet at Children's Mercy Park in the early hours of Thursday morning as Sporting KC hosts Charlotte FC in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Kerry Zavagnin’s hosts have fired in 28 goals across their opening 18 MLS clashes this term, with 14 (50%) of them coming in front of their supporters.

The Wizards have failed to score in just three of their past 17 MLS matches – notching multiple strikes in three of their last four and seven of their previous 12 – and will be confident of troubling a Charlotte backline that has shipped 2+ goals in seven of their previous eight MLS outings, including in five of their last six and six of their past eight away from home.

Ex-Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has seen his side score 29 goals across their opening 18 MLS encounters this season, with 12 (41%) of them coming on their travels.

The Crown have failed to score just three times in the MLS this campaign – finding the target in each of their last eight and 11 of their past 13 – and will look to trouble an SKC backline that’s kept just three sheets in the MLS this season, with only DC United (38) and LA Galaxy (39) shipping more than the 35 they have let in.

Bet of the Day

Sporting KC’s opening 18 clashes in the MLS this term have averaged an eye-catching 3.50 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals banking in 12 (67%) of them, including in each of their last four (2-4, 3-1, 1-3 & 3-3).

Charlotte’s opening 18 MLS matches this campaign have averaged 3.22 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 11 (60%) of them – including in seven of their last eight and eight of their past 10 – whilst seven of their previous eight have also seen goals at both ends.

Given both sides' regularity of finding the back of the net and their lack of clean sheets, I’m expecting an entertaining encounter in Missouri in the early hours of Thursday morning.

  • Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
  • Pays 17/20 (William Hill)
