Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into both the Swiss Super League and the French Ligue 1 and I’ve a game from each league to give us a solid looking double.
Monaco vs Angers
🇫🇷 Ligue 1
⏰ Sunday 1st May, 14:00
Monaco will look to keep the pressure on Rennes, as they host struggling Angers at the Stade Louis II. The hosts come into matchday 35 behind third-placed Rennes only on goal difference, while the visitors are 14th but are only four points above the relegation playoff spot.
Monaco extended their winning run in Ligue 1 to six matches last time out, as they won 1-4 away to relegation-threatened Saint-Étienne. Philippe Clement’s hosts have won 10 of their last 14 matches at the Stade Louis II, including each of their last three. When hosting sides in the bottom half, the Principality club have a record of W6-D1-L1, scoring 20 goals and conceding just five goals in those eight matches.
Despite taking a two-goal lead, Angers’s winless run was extended to five matches last time out, as they drew 2-2 away to relegation-rivals Clermont. Gérald Baticle’s side have now won just one of their last 13 Ligue 1 matches, losing nine of them (W1-D3-L9). Les Scoistes have won just twice away from home all season and come into this match having lost five of their last eight away, conceding 18 goals in the process.
Basel vs Zürich
🇨🇭 Super League
⏰ Sunday 1st May, 15:30
Zürich will look to secure their first league title since 2009, as they travel to St. Jakob-Park to take on second-placed Basel. The visitors are currently 13 points clear of their opponents with just five matches left to play.
Having drawn each of their previous three, Basel got back to winning ways last time out as they recorded a comfortable 3-0 victory over Luzern. Guille Abascal’s side have lost just once at home this season and come into this winning three of their last five on home home turf. Basel have only failed to score twice this season and have found the back of the net 67 times this season, with 36 of those coming at home. Basel have kept just four clean sheets at home this season and have conceded on multiple occasions in four of their last seven at St. Jakob-Park.
Zürich come into this off the back of successive home wins, firstly defeating Young Boys 2-1 before thumping Sion 5-1 last time out. André Breitenreiter’s side lost their last away match against Servette but prior to that, they had seven of their previous eight on their travels. Zürich have failed to score just three times this season and are the leagues top-scorers, having found the back of the net 69. FCZ have recorded just four clean sheets away from home this season, with three of those coming against the bottom three sides in the table.
Bet of the Day
Monaco are the form team in France at the moment and will look to keep the pressure on third-placed Rennes, as they host a struggling Angers side. Philippe Clement’s side have won each of their last six in Ligue and should defeat an Angers side that’s won just one of their last 13 in the league and who have recorded just two victories away from home all season.
Zürich can wrap up their first league title since 2009, as they take on second-placed Basel and I’m expecting goals at St. Jakob-Park. These two sides have found the back of the net in 57/62 of their league fixtures this season, scoring 136 goals and with the three previous meetings between the two this season seeing 16 goals, we should see at least three goals here.
- Monaco to Win
- Basel vs Zürich – Over 2.5 Goals
