Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me stay in Scandinavia once more but this time I’m heading to the Icelandic second-tier and there’s two fixtures I like the look of for goals.

Selfoss vs Vestri

🇮🇸 1. deild karla

⏰ Tuesday 5th July, 19:00

Selfoss will look to maintain their two-point lead at the top of the 1. deild karla table, as they play host to mid-table Vestri at the JÁVERK völlurinn.

Despite taking the lead twice, Selfoss failed to collect all three points last time out as they could only draw 2-2 away at Grindavík. Selfoss won 2-0 against Fjölnir in their last home fixture, meaning they have taken 10 points from their opening four fixtures at home. Englishman Dean Martin has saw his side find the back of the net in all nine of their opening league fixtures, scoring on multiple occasions in eight of them, including in all four at home. The Selfyssingar have conceded 12 goals so far this season, with eight of those coming in their last four matches.

Vestri suffered just their second defeat in their last eight matches last time out, as they suffered a shock 2-4 home loss to second from bottom KV. Vestri won 1-2 against Fjölnir in their last away fixture, with Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson’s side having lost just one of their last four matches on the road. Vestri have found the back of the net in seven of their last eight matches, scoring on multiple occasions in six of those, including in each of their last four. Vestri have recorded just one clean sheet this season and posses the leagues joint-worst defence, conceding 22 times.

Thór vs KV

🇮🇸 1. deild karla

⏰ Tuesday 5th July, 19:00

Two of the current bottom three sides in 1. deild karla meet in Akureyri, as Thór play host to KV at the SaltPay-völlurinn on Tuesday evening.

Thór emphatically put an end to their seven-match winless run last time out, as they defeated bottom side Thróttur Vogar. Thór have W2-D1-L2 of their opening five home fixtures this season, with both defeats coming against the top-two. In fact, only Selfoss (1st) and Grótta (2nd) have stopped Thór from scoring this season, finding the back of the net 11 times in their other seven fixtures. That clean that Thorlákur Már Árnason’s side recorded last time out was their first in eight matches, conceding 18 times in those previous seven matches.

KV come into this having lost just one of their last four matches following an impressive 2-4 away to Vestri last time out. That was the first points KV had collected on the road, after having lost all of their previous five away fixtures. KV are yet to record a clean sheet this season and have conceded 17 goals in their six away fixtures, conceding on multiple occasions in all six. Sigurvin Ólafsson’s side have found the back of the net in all bar one of their opening nine league fixtures this season, including in each of their last six matches.

Bet of the Day

Table-toppers Selfoss host mid-table Vestri in a fixture that promises goals this evening. The hosts have found the back of the net on multiple occasions in 8/9 of their league fixtures and there’s every chance they’ll score at least twice against the joint-worst defence in the division. However, the visitors have scored twice in each of their last four matches and I wouldn’t rule them getting on the scoresheet against a Selfoss side that’s conceded eight goals in their last four matches.
The reason Thór and KV currently sit in 10th and 11th position respectively is due to their defensive records and I’m expecting goals when the pair meet in Akureyri this evening. Only the top-two have stopped Thór from netting this season and they should score at least once against a KV side that has the joint worst defence and who have conceded at least twice in all six of their away matches. KV have found the back of the net in 8/9 of their league matches, including in each of their last six and should also get on the scoresheet at least once against a Thór defence that’s already conceded 18 times this season.
