Football Bet of the Day

After recording back-to-back winners in Turkiye on Tuesday, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me drop down to the Conference League qualifiers, and I’ve highlighted one team that I am keen to get on side.

⚽️ Dundee United vs Rapid Vienna

🇪🇺 Conference League Qualifying

⏰ Thursday 14 August, 19:45

A week after their 2-2 draw in the Austrian capital last Thursday, Dundee United welcome Rapid Vienna to Tannadice on Thursday night in the second leg of their Conference League third-round qualifier.

Jim Goodwin’s men began their European campaign this season against Luxembourg side UNA Strassen in the previous round, winning both legs 1-0.

Dundee United then travelled to Austria last week as underdogs, and despite falling behind twice, goals from Max Watters and new signing Zachary Sapsford meant that The Tangerines would leave the Austrian capital with a draw, leaving the tie firmly in the balance.

Dundee United do head into this clash having picked up a solitary point from their opening two Scottish Premiership contests of the season, drawing 2-2 at newly-promoted Falkirk, before losing 2-3 in stoppage-time on Sunday at home to Hearts.

Rapid Vienna, on the other hand, have won both of their opening two domestic matches of the season, defeating BW Linz 1-0, before coming from a goal down to defeat champions Sturm Graz 1-2 away from home at the weekend.

Peter Stoger’s men also defeated Montenegrin side FK Dedic home and away in the previous round (0-2 & 4-2), meaning their only blemish so far this season is the draw in the first leg last week.

Bet of the Day

Dundee United did well to leave Vienna with a draw last week, but Rapid were the better side, and would’ve scored more if they weren’t as wasteful in front of goal.

That first leg draw is the only time the Green-Whites have failed to win this season (W4-D1-L0), and I feel their superior quality will show here.

Last season’s Conference League quarter-finalists have scored 11 goals across their five competitive clashes this season – notching on multiple occasions in four (80%) of them – and I’m backing them to have too much firepower for a United defence that has shipped multiple goals in each of their previous three matches (2-2, 2-2 & 2-3).
