Football Bet of the Day

After returning to winning ways in Iceland on Monday, Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the US Open Cup quarter finals, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ Minnesota United vs Chicago Fire

🇺🇸 Open Cup

⏰ Wednesday 9 July, 01:00

The Chicago Fire travel to Allianz Field to take on Minnesota United in the quarter-finals of the US Open Cup in the early hours of Wednesday morning in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Eric Ramsay’s hosts have scored 39 goals across their opening 23 MLS and Open Cup fixtures this season, with 22 (56%) of them coming in front of their supporters.

The Loons have found the back of the net in all bar one of their opening 11 home contests in all competitions this campaign – striking on multiple occasions in seven (64%) of them – and will be confident of breaching a Chicago defence that has yet to register a clean sheet on their travels in all competitions this term, shipping 25 goals.

Gregg Berhalter’s visitors have scored 46 goals across their opening 22 clashes in the MLS and Open Cup this campaign, with an impressive 32 (70%) of them coming on their travels.

The Fire have found the back of the net in all 12 (100%) of their away matches in all competitions this term – notching 2+ goals in nine (75%) of them – and will look to continue their extraordinary goal-scoring record away from this season against a Minnesota defence that has kept a solitary shutout across their past seven MLS/Open Cup encounters on home soil, shipping 12 goals.

Bet of the Day

The Fire’s opening 12 MLS and US Open Cup matches on the road this campaign have averaged a ridiculous 4.75 Goals per game, with Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals landing in all 12 (100%) of them – including a 1-3 success at Gillette Stadium away to The Revs in the previous round.

The Loons’ previous seven MLS and US Open Cup contests in front of their supporters have averaged an eye-catching 4.14 goals per game, with six (86%) of them seeing goals at both ends, whilst six (86%) have also gone Over 2.5 Goals – including a 3-2 success over St. Louis City in the last round.

Whilst I’m not overly keen on betting cup matches, The Fire’s fixtures away from home this campaign have all been littered with goals, and I’m expecting another high-scoring clash at Allianz Field in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

  • Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
  • Pays 17/20 (William Hill)
