Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on both Ligue 1 and the Eliteserien. I’ve picked a selection from each league in which I fancy goals in to give us a nicely priced double.

Montpellier vs Lens

?? Ligue 1

⏰ Sunday 17th October, 16:00

Montpellier host high flying Lens at the Stade de la Mosson on Sunday on what looks like an entertaining match. Montpellier sit in 13th position on 10 points, whereas the visitors sit in a lofty 2nd place on 18 points.

Last time out Montpellier drew their third match in the last four, as it ended 1-1 between them and Strasbourg. Montpellier have lost three matches this season against Marseille, Lille and PSG, sides you’d expect to be challenging for the title and the Champions League spots. Defeat away to PSG is the only time Montpellier have failed to score this season, scoring 16 times, with only Nice and PSG scoring more. They’ve scored in all five home matches in Ligue 1 so far, scoring 11 times. Montpellier have only kept a clean sheet at home to bottom side St Etienne all season, conceding 16 times in total.

Lens have had an excellent start to their Ligue 1 season, sitting in 2nd place after nine rounds. They come into this match in good form also, winning four of their last five. Like Montpellier, Lens have also scored 16 in the league this season, failing to score once at home to Strasbourg in a match they played almost the entire second half with 10 men. Lens have kept three clean sheets this season, but only one of those have came away from home, conceding five times, with them conceding multiple goals on their last two trips.

Strømsgodset vs Viking

?? Eliteserien

⏰ Sunday 17th October, 16:00

Strømsgodset host Viking at the Marienlyst Stadion in a fixture that promises goals. The hosts come into this on 29 points and in 8th position, whereas the visitors sit in 5th, six points above their hosts.

Strømsgodset come into this failing to score in their last two matches, collecting just a point in games against Stabæk and Vålerenga. Both of those games were away however, with Strømsgodset being a different animal at home, collecting 23/29 of their points there. Only Molde and Rosenborg have scored more goals at home in the Eliteserien than Strømsgodset, scoring 25 times in 10 home matches. Strømsgodset do conceded though, keeping only three clean sheets at home. All 10 of Strømsgodset’s matches have seen at least two goals, with eight of them seeing three or more.

Despite playing over 70 minutes with 10 men, Viking scored twice to defeat Sandefjord 2-1 last time out. That now means Viking have scored in 17 of their last 18 matches, including in each of their last 13. Only Molde, Bodø/Glimt and Rosenborg have scored more than Viking’s 41 in the Eliteserien so far this season. Remarkably though, Viking are still yet to keep a clean sheet this season, conceding 40 goals, with only second from bottom Stabæk conceding more. 18 of Viking’s 21 Eliteserien games this season have seen at least three strikes, including nine of their 10 away matches.

Bet of the Day

Montpellier and Lens are the joint third top goalscorer’s in Ligue 1 this season, with them both notching 16 goals in nine matches. I’m expecting the goals to flow once more in the South of France and expect both sides to get on the scoresheet. They were eight goals shared in their two meetings last season, with both sides scoring in both. Goals look an absolute given in Norway as Strømsgodset host Viking. Strømsgodset have been banging the goals in at home, averaging 2.5 per match and will feel confident of adding their tally against a Viking side yet to keep a clean sheet this season. The visitors are more than capable of scoring also, with only the top two and Rosenborg scoring more than them in the league. Goals should flow here and we should see the net ripple at least three times in what should be a fun and entertaining match.

  • Montpellier vs Lens  – Both Teams to Score
  • Strømsgodset vs Viking – Over 2.5 goals
  • Double Pays 6/5 (William Hill)
