After the surprise lack of goals in Switzerland on Saturday, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Days sees me head to the goal-laden German 2. Bundesliga, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Schalke 04 vs Karlsruher SC
🇩🇪 2. Bundesliga
⏰ Sunday 16 February, 12:30
Schalke will look to distance themselves from the 2. Bundesliga relegation places as they welcome 10th-placed Karlsruher to the Veltins-Arena in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Kees van Wonderen’s hosts have scored 37 goals across their opening 21 matches in the German second tier, with 22 (59%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
The Royal Blues have found the back of the net in all bar one of their league outings on home soil – notching on multiple occasions in 7/10 (70%) of them – and will look to continue their impressive goal-scoring record at home against a Karlsruher defence that has recorded just three clean sheets in the league this season, shipping 2+ goals in 13 of their last 16 matches.
Christian Eichner’s visitors are the joint third-highest scorers in the German second tier this campaign, slamming in 39 goals across their opening 21 matches, with 19 (49%) of them coming on their travels.
KSC have made the net bulge in 18 of their previous 19 league contests – striking on multiple occasions in 11 (58%) of them – and will look to add to their impressive goal-tally against a Schalke defence whose three clean sheets have all come against the bottom three sides in the German 2. Bundesliga table, shipping an eye-watering 40 goals.
Bet of the Day
Schalke’s opening 10 2. Bundesliga fixtures in front of their supporters have averaged an eye-watering 4.70 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in eight (80%) of them, whilst eight (80%) have also produced goals at both ends.
Karlsruher’s opening 21 contests in the German second tier this term have averaged a league-high 3.76 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in 16 (79%) of them – including in nine of their past 10 away from home – whilst a league-best 17 (81%) have featured goals at both ends, including in nine of their previous 10 road trips.
Given both side's regularity in front of goal and the alarming amount of goals they are conceding, I’m expecting a high-scoring encounter, with both of these teams contributing in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday afternoon.
- Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
- Pays 17/20 (William Hill)
