Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me delve into League One and theres a match I like the look of for goals at both ends.
Portsmouth vs Wigan Athletic
??????? League One
⏰ Tuesday 26th April, 19:45
Wigan travel to Fratton Park to take on Portsmouth knowing they need just a point to secure promotion to the Championship. The visitors are currently three points clear of third-placed MK Dons, whilst the visitors are 9th but can no longer reach the playoffs.
Portsmouth come into this having collected 10 points from their last four fixtures, with nine of those points coming at home. In fact, as well as winning each of their last three at home, Danny Cowley’s side are unbeaten in their last nine league games at Fratton Park, winning seven of those. Pompey have found the back of the net in 19/22 of their league fixtures at home this season, scoring in 11 of their last 12. Only Sunderland (48), Oxford (46) and Sheffield Wednesday (44) have scored more than Portsmouth’s tally of 43 on home turf, with 25 of those goals coming in their last nine.
Wigan came from behind to salvage a draw at home to Plymouth last time out, extending their winless run in League One to four matches. Wigan may have drawn their last two matches away from home but they’ve just one of their last 20 and no side has collected more points on their travels than the Latics, with them earning 45 from a possible 63 (W13-D6-L2). Wigan have found the back of the net in 40/44 of their League One fixtures this season and Leam Richardson’s side are also the highest-scoring away team, finding the back of the net 41 times.
Bet of the Day
Wigan travel to Fratton Park knowing they need just a point to make an instant return to the Championship but face a tough test against a Portsmouth side who’ve won each of their last three at home, scoring nine goals in the process. In fact, Danny Cowley’s men are unbeaten in each of their last nine at home, winning seven. However, despite drawing each of their last two, the Latics have lost just one of their last 20 on their travels, so I’m going to avoid the 1X2 markets and focus on goals. Pompey have found the back of the net in 19/22 at home and given the visitors have only failed to score four times all season, I’m happy to back both sides to get on the scoresheet in Hampshire on Tuesday evening.
