Following on from Thursday’s winner at the Gillette Stadium, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me remain in the MLS, and I’ve highlighted another goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ FC Cincinnati vs Columbus Crew
🇺🇸 MLS
⏰ Sunday 13 July, 00:30
Two clubs separated only by four points in the Eastern Conference table meet at TQL Stadium in the early hours of Sunday morning as leaders FC Cincinnati hosts fourth-placed Columbus Crew in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Pat Noonan’s hosts have scored 33 goals across their opening 21 MLS contests this campaign, with 16 (48%) of those coming across their nine home matches.
The Orange and Blue have failed to score just twice all season and have found the back of the net in all nine (100%) of their fixtures in front of their supporters – notching on multiple occasions in six of their past eight on home soil – and will be confident of breaching a Crew defence that has kept a solitary clean sheet across their previous 16 MLS outings, and none in their last eight on the road.
Wilfried Nancy’s visitors have also scored 33 goals across their opening 21 contests in MLS this term, with 13 (39%) of those coming across their six road trips.
The Crew have the net bulge in each of their last 12 and in 15 of their past 16 MLS clashes – including in all nine (100%) on their travels – and will look to get on the scoresheet once again against a Cincinnati backline that has kept just two clean sheets across their previous 13 MLS matches and nine in their past five at home.
Bet of the Day
FC Cincinnati’s opening 21 MLS encounters this season have averaged 2.86 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score banking in 13 (62%) of them – including in seven of their last eight and 10 of their past 13 – whilst six of their previous seven across all venues (4-2, 3-3, 1-2, 0-1, 1-3, 1-2 & 2-1) and six of their past seven at home have seen a minimum of three strikes (2-2, 1-0, 2-1, 2-1, 3-3, 1-2 & 2-1).
The Crew’s opening 21 MLS fixtures have also averaged 2.86 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score banking in a joint league-high 16 (76%) of them – including in 11 of their last 12 – whilst 11 of their previous 16 have seen a minimum of three goals.
Given these sides rarely fail to find the target and their lack of clean sheets in recent months, I’m happy to have a play on there being a minimum of three goals, with both teams getting on the scoresheet in the second edition of the “Hell is Real Derby” on Saturday night/Sunday morning.
- Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
- Pays 17/20 (William Hill)
