After making it consecutive winners in Spain on Thursday, Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the Icelandic second tier, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Fylkir vs Grindavik
🇮🇸 1. deild
⏰ Friday 13 June, 20:15
Grindavik will look to potentially climb into the Icelandic 1. deild playoff places as they travel to the Fylkisvollur to take on third-bottom Fylkir in a fixture that I’m keen to back the visitors to strike at least twice.
Fylkir managed to put a halt to their three-match losing run last time out, as they scored a late equaliser to draw 1-1 away at Keflavik.
Nevertheless, Arni Freyr Gudnason’s hosts remain outside the relegation zone only on goal difference, with their solitary success coming against the side directly below them in the table, Selfoss, on matchday 2.
What’s more, the Fylkismenn head into this clash off the back of successive 1-2 home defeats against Throttur Reykjavik (5th) and Leiknir Reykjavik (9th).
After picking up a solitary point from their opening two league matches of the season, Grindavik appear to have found their groove, with them winning three of their next four fixtures to move them up into seventh position, just a point outside the playoff places.
The latest of those victories came dramatically, as despite being a goal and then a man down after 72 minutes at home to third-placed HK, Haraldur Arni Hrodmarsson’s men scored twice in the final seven minutes to seal a 2-1 victory.
Bet of the Day
Despite playing a game fewer than 10 of the other 11 teams in the division, Grindavik are the leading scorers in the Icelandic second tier, firing in a ridiculous 19 goals across their opening six matches, with 11 (58%) of them coming on their travels.
Haraldur Arni Hrodmarsson’s visitors have scored 2+ goals in each of their previous five league outings – even netting 3+ in four (80%) of those matches – and I’m happy to have a punt on them bagging another brace away to a Fylkir defence that has kept a solitary clean sheet across their opening seven contests (against 11th-placed Selfoss), shipping 2+ goals in three of their last four.
- Grindavik to Score Over 1.5 Goals
- Pays 7/4 (Skybet/William Hill)
