Football Bet of the Day

After making it back-to-back winners in Poland on Wednesday, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me drop down to the Europa League qualifiers, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ BK Hacken vs SK Brann

🇪🇺 Europa League Qualifying

⏰ Thursday 7 August, 18:00

Scandinavian rivals Hacken and Brann meet at the Bravida Arena on Thursday evening in the first leg of their Europa League third round tie, in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

After securing a 3-2 aggregate victory over Spartak Trnava in the first qualifying round, Hacken travelled to Belgium to take on Anderlecht in the second qualifying round and lost 1-0.

It looked like Jens Gustafsson’s men were going to drop down to the Conference League, but a stoppage-time penalty sent the tie to extra-time, before the reigning Svenska Cupen holders knocked out the record-Belgian champions on penalties.

However, things haven’t been going to plan domestically, with The Wasps sitting in 10th position in the Allsvenskan table after winning just two of their previous eight league outings (W2-D2-L4).

Meanwhile, Brann have dropped to the Europa League after being knocked out in the second round of Champions League qualifying, losing 5-2 on aggregate to FC Salzburg.

The Pride of Bergen are going far better domestically than their Swedish hosts, with Freyr Alexandersson’s men currently sitting in third position in the Eliteserien table, just six points behind current leaders Viking with a game in hand.

Bet of the Day

Hacken’s opening 12 Allsvenskan and Europa League fixtures on home soil this campaign have averaged an eye-catching four goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in nine (75%) of them, whilst nine of their past 10 have produced goals at both ends.

Brann’s opening 19 league and European fixtures this season have averaged 3.32 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals paying out in 13 (68%) of them, whilst 12 (63%) have produced goals at both ends.

It’s no secret that both of these attack-minded sides are far better offensively than they are defensively, and I’m expecting these two teams to play out an entertaining encounter in Gothenburg on Thursday night.
