Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on Israel and Germany. I've picked a selection from each league to give us a nice double.
Maccabi Petah Tikva vs Maccabi Haifa
?? Premier League
⏰ Saturday 8th January, 15:45
Title chasing Maccabi Haifa travel to the HaMoshava Stadium to take on bottom side Maccabi Petah Tikva. The visitors currently trail league leaders Hapoel Be’er Sheva by two points, whilst the hosts are three points adrift of the side above them.
Maccabi Petah Tikva’s poor form continued last time out as they lost 2-1 away to Hapoel Tel Aviv, conceding in stoppage time. That’s now five defeats on the spin for former Charlton Athletic manager Guy Luzon, with the bottom side also only taking one point from their previous nine in the league. In that run of nine games without a win, The Luzons have struggled for goals, failing to score in six of those matches, scoring just three goals. Maccabi Petah Tikva are not one for keeping clean sheets either, with them keeping just two all season, the joint lowest in the league.
Maccabi Haifa came from two down to defeat Maccabi Tel Aviv last timeout, with all three goals coming in the final quarter of an hour. That extended their winning run to eight now in the league, with The Green Apes also only dropping two points in their last 11. By a distance, Maccabi Haifa are the leading goal scorer’s in the Israeli Premier League, finding the back of the net on 42 occasions, with Barak Bakhar’s side scoring 19 of those in their last five away from home. Maccabi Haifa have also only conceded 13 goals and have kept a joint best tally of seven clean sheets.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Dortmund
?? Bundesliga
⏰ Saturday 8th January, 17:30
Two sides in the hunt for Champions League football next year meet at the Deutsche Bank Park as Eintracht Frankfurt host Borussia Dortmund. The hosts come into this in 6th, seven points behind their 2nd placed opponents.
Eintracht Frankfurt ended 2021 in great form, with their 1-0 win over Mainz making it three wins in a row. In fact, Oliver Glasner’s side won six of their last seven prior to the winter break, with their only setback coming in a 3-2 defeat away to fellow European hopefuls Hoffenheim. The Eagles have also been in fine scoring form in recent weeks, with them finding the back of the net 17 times across those seven matches, scoring 2+ in six of them. Whilst scoring goals hasn’t been an issue for Eintracht, keeping clean sheets have, with them only managing to keep three all season.
Borussia Dortmund suffered a damaging defeat before the winter break, losing 3-2 away to midtable Hertha Berlin. That’s now just just one win in their last four for Marco Rose’s side, with that caming against basement boys Greuther Fürth. Dortmund have also struggled for clean sheets in the first half of the season, keeping only two and both of them came at home. Dortmund do score goals, with their tally of 41 only being bettered by champions Bayern Munich. The Blacks and Yellows have only failed to score once all season and have scored two or more in 13 of their opening 17 matches.
Bet of the Day
Maccabi Haifa come into this in sizzling form, with them winning each of their last eight in the league and they should make it nine away to bottom side Maccabi Petah Tikva. The hosts come into this without a win in their last nine in the league, losing eight and failing to score in six of them, scoring just three goals. Given both sides current run of form, I cant see anything other than an away victory here. Eintracht Frankfurt host Borussia Dortmund in the Saturday’s late kick off in the Bundesliga. Oliver Glasner’s side have won six of their last seven in the Bundesliga, scoring 17 goals and they’ll look to increase that number against a Dortmund side yet to keep a clean sheet away from home this season. Only Bayern have outscored Dortmund in the Bundesliga and with The Eagles only keeping three clean sheets themselves this season, I’d be surprised if Marco Rose’s side didn’t find the back of the net at least once. Given both sides records at both ends of the pitch, I’m expecting an open game which should see at least three strikes.
