Football Bet of the Day

After a surprising lack of goals in Iceland on Friday, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head back to the MLS, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

⚽️ CF Montreal vs Chicago Fire

🇺🇸 MLS

⏰ Sunday 20 July 00:30

Chicago Fire will look to give their playoff hopes a boost as they travel to the Saputo Stadium to take on bottom of the Eastern Conference, CF Montreal, in the early hours of Sunday morning in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Marco Donadel’s hosts have scored just 20 goals across their opening 23 MLS matches this campaign, with eight (40%) of them coming on home soil.

However, The Impact have now found the back of the net in 12 of their past 13 MLS outings – including in seven of their last eight at home – and will look to find the target once again against a Chicago defence that has yet to register a clean sheet on their travels this term, shipping 26 goals.

Gregg Berhalter’s visitors have scored 42 goals across their opening 22 clashes in the MLS this campaign, with a league-high 31 (74%) of them coming on their travels.

The Fire have found the back of the net in all 12 (100%) of their away matches in the MLS this term – notching 2+ goals in nine (75%) of them – and will look to continue their extraordinary goal-scoring record away from this season against a Montreal defence that has kept just four clean sheets all season, shipping multiple goals in five of their past six and six of their previous eight home matches.

Bet of the Day

Montreal’s previous 11 encounters in the MLS have averaged an impressive 3.73 goals per game, with nine (82%) seeing goals at both ends, whilst eight of their previous 10 have seen a minimum of three strikes.

The Fire’s opening 12 MLS matches on the road have averaged a ridiculous 4.75 Goals per game, with Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals landing in all 12 (100%) of them.

Chicago’s matches away from home speak for themself, but given Montreal’s recent improvement in front of goal as well, I’m more than happy to back a high-scoring encounter between these two sides.

  • Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals
  • Pays 5/6 (William Hill)
