Following back-to-back winners in Kazakhstan and Ireland, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on Rangers’ opening day trip to Rugby Park, and I’ve come up with a bet builder featuring goals and cards.
⚽️ Kilmarnock vs Rangers
🏴 Premiership
⏰ Saturday 5th August, 17:15
New-look Rangers begin their bid for the Scottish Premiership title in the late kick-off on Saturday night as they travel to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock.
After earning promotion back to the Scottish Premiership, Derek Mcinnes would’ve been delighted with his side’s 10th-place finish last season, eventually finishing six points above the relegation playoff spot. The key to their survival was due to their strong home form, collecting 32/40 (80%) of their points on their controversial plastic pitch. Killie had a strong League Cup campaign to begin their season, as they topped their group by collecting 10 points from a possible 12.
It proved to be a nightmare campaign for Rangers last year, as not only did they eventually finish seven points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, but they were beaten in both cup competitions by their bitter rivals as they watched The Hopps clinch a fifth treble in seven seasons. However, since the appointment of manager Michael Beale last December, Rangers have gone on to win 19 of their next 23 Premiership matches (W19-D3-L1), only dropping points against Celtic (twice), Aberdeen and Hearts.
Bet of the Day
Despite their poor season last year, Rangers managed to make the net bulge on two or more occasions in 30/38 (79%) of their Scottish Premiership fixtures – including in 20/23 (87%) of their matches under Michael Beale – and I’m backing them to begin this campaign by bagging another double against a Killie side that lost all six of their Premiership meetings with the Old Firm last season by an aggregate score of 19-4.
To nudge up the price, I’m happy to throw in the hosts to pick up at least two cards and the visitors to earn one. Rangers drew multiple cards from 18/19 (95%) of their opponents when playing on their travels in the Premiership last term, whilst Killie picked up two or more cards in 15/19 (79%) of their league outings on home soil. All 19 of Derek McInnes’ visitors to Rugby Park last season, whilst The Gers earned a card in 16/19 (84%) of their road trips.
- Rangers to Score Over 1.5 Goals, Rangers Over 0.5 Cards & Kilmarnock Over 1.5 Cards
- Pays 28/25 (BetVictor Bet Builder)

Probably thinking with you’re blue tinted specs Greg…underestimating Killies pitch ,,determination to keep up their good record at home against rangers…with the new squad of loanee/freebies and untested in Scotland,Killie Double Chance @ 9/5 has more bite to it.
Ps,read your column after posting.Regarding pitch,form etc.
With Beale’s new signings, I’m expecting a lot of headed goals this season. Starting with this trip to Rugby Park.
Souttar to score a header at 20/1 (Skybet) is worth a look.
BRW, the actual league winning gap was 13 points last season.
Doesn’t matter what happens after the league is won. It’s the same in every league, in every season.
Winner winner..Chicken dinner 😎😎😎
Understand people put tremendous amount of time and research into bets but with so many factors to account there is no sure bet,I will for the new season go against the bookies outcomes like today and do btts and over 2.5mgl bets above evens👍
Beale under massive pressure already.
He’ll be gone by October imho
