Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the German Bundesliga, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ SC Freiburg vs TSG Hoffenheim
🇩🇪 Bundesliga
⏰ Sunday 28 September, 14:30
Two clubs level on points in the Bundesliga table meet at Europa-Park on Sunday afternoon as Freiburg hosts Hoffenheim in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Julian Schuster’s hosts made a really poor start to the campaign, as an opening day 1-3 loss at home to Augsburg was followed by a 4-1 thrashing away at newly-promoted Koln.
However, the Black Forest outfit have turned things around, scoring three late goals to defeat Stuttgart 3-1, before a convincing 0-3 victory over Werder Bremen on Saturday propelled them up into seventh position in the Bundesliga table.
Freiburg were also in action on Wednesday in the Europa League, as they secured a 2-1 win over Swiss champions FC Basel, a scoreline which landed Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Hoffenheim come into this clash having lost each of their opening two home matches of the campaign, as their 1-4 loss against Bayern last week followed a 1-3 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt.
However, Christian Ilzer’s visitors have been victorious in each of their opening two road trips, defeating last season's runners-up Bayer Leverkusen 1-2 on the opening day of the season, and Union Berlin 2-4 in the capital.
Bet of the Day
Freiburg’s opening four Bundesliga fixtures this season have averaged 4.00 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score banking in three (75%), whilst all four (100%) have seen a minimum of three goals (1-3, 1-4, 3-1 & 3-0).
What’s more, Freiburg’s 21 matches in front of their supporters in all competitions since the beginning of last season have averaged an impressive 3.43 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score landing in 16 (76%) of them, whilst 17 (86%) have seen three or more goals.
Hoffenheim’s previous nine Bundesliga fixtures have averaged a whopping 4.89 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score banking in eight (89%) of them – including in all four this season (2-1, 1-3, 4-2 & 1-4) – whilst all nine (100%) have seen a minimum of three goals.
Given that both clubs like to play attacking football and on the front foot, I’m expecting to see an open encounter in the Black Forest on Sunday.
