Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the MLS, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.

Two clubs separated only by two points in the Eastern Conference table meet at Yankee Stadium in the early hours of Thursday morning as seventh-placed New York City FC hosts fifth-placed Columbus Crew in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Pascal Jansen’s hosts have fired in 41 goals across their opening 28 matches in the MLS this campaign, with 22 (54%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
The Pigeons have failed to score in just two of their opening 13 MLS encounters on home soil this term – notching on multiple occasions in five of their past seven – and will be confident of breaching a Crew backline that has kept just two clean sheets across their previous 24 MLS contests.
Wilfried Nancy’s visitors have scored 48 goals across their opening 29 matches in the MLS this season, with 23 (48%) of them coming on their travels.
The Crew have failed to score just five times in MLS this season – finding the back of the net in 12/14 (86%) of their road trips – and will look to get on the scoresheet once again against an NYCFC defence that has kept just two clean sheets across their past 14 MLS encounters.

NYCFC’s opening 13 home contests in MLS this campaign have averaged 2.69 goals per game, with seven (53%) of them featuring goals at both ends – including their last three – whilst nine (69%) of them have seen a minimum of three strikes, including each of their past six (3-1, 0-3, 4-0, 3-1, 2-1 & 1-2).
The Crew’s opening 29 MLS fixtures have averaged 3.14 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score banking in 22 (76%) of them – including in 17 of their last 20 – whilst 17 of their previous 24 have seen a minimum of three goals.
Given the form both of these attacks arrive in this match, I fully expect to see an entertaining encounter full of goals.
