Euro 2024 Bet of the day

After returning to winning ways thanks to Motherwell’s late equaliser on Saturday, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to La Liga, and there is one fixture in particular that appeals to me for both goals and cards.

⚽️ Athletic Club vs Villarreal

?? La Liga

⏰ Sunday 14th April, 17:30

Following on from their historic Copa del Rey success last weekend, Athletic Club will look to keep up their hopes of Champions League qualification as they welcome European hopefuls Villarreal San Mamés in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Athletic Club have scored 50 goals across their opening 30 La Liga fixtures this term, with an incredible 36 (72%) of them coming on home soil. The Basque outfit have only failed to score against Real Madrid (1st) and Barça (2nd) in front of their supporters in La Liga this campaign – scoring on multiple occasions in 12 of their previous 14- and I’m expecting them to at least breach a Villarreal defence that is without a clean sheet in each of their previous 10 La Liga contests on their travels, shipping multiple goals in seven (70%) of them.

Marcelino’s visitors have scored 48 goals across their opening 30 La Liga fixtures this term, with 22 (46%) of them coming on their travels. The Yellow Submarine have found the back of the net in 26 (87%) of their La Liga encounters – scoring on multiple occasions in three of their previous four away from home – and will look to trouble an Athletic defence that conceded in 6/8 (75%) of their home matches against top-half opposition, shipping multiple goals in five (63%) of them.

Bet of the Day

Athletic Club’s opening 15 La Liga encounters on home soil are averaging 3.33 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals clicking in 10 of their last 14 – and given the same has landed in eight of Villarreal’s previous 10 La Liga road trips – I’m happy to have a punt on there being at least three goals between these two sides in the Basque Country tomorrow evening, with the hosts scoring at least one of them.

To nudge the price up, I’m happy to throw in the visitors to pick up at least two cards. This selection has landed in all 14 (100%) of Villarreal’s La Liga encounters on the road this season – with The Yellow Submarine even earning three or more in 12 (86%) of them – whilst Athletic Club have seen 10 of their previous 14 visiting La Liga opponents to San Mamés pick up multiple cards.

  • Athletic Club to Score Over 0.5 Goals, Over 2.5 Goals & Villarreal Over 1.5 Cards
  • Pays 6/5 (BetVictor Bet Builder)
