Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Nations League fixture at Hampden and I like the look of both sides to get on the scoresheet.
??????? Scotland vs Ukraine ??
?? Nations League
⏰ Wednesday 21st September, 19:45
The top-two nations in League B1 meet at Hampden Park on Wednesday evening, as second-placed Scotland play host to group leaders Ukraine.
Scotland failed to qualify for their first World Cup since 1998, as they lost 1-3 at home to the Ukraine in their play-off semi-final just under four months ago. That defeat was Steve Clarke’s sides only defeat in World Cup qualifying at Hampden, with them also winning 2-0 against Armenia in their opening Nations League fixture in front of the Tartan Army. In fact, The Scots have done the double over Armenia in their Nations League group, but embarrassingly lost 3-0 away to the Republic of Ireland to leave them in second position in the group. Scotland have found the back of the net in each of their last seven competitive fixtures in front of their own supporters, scoring on multiple occasions in five of those.
Despite winning 1-3 against Scotland in their World Cup play-off semi-final, Ukraine also failed to qualify for this years World Cup as they were defeated in Cardiff by Wales. Prior to that defeat, Oleksandr Petrakov’s side had gone through World Cup qualifying unbeaten – including draws home and away against reigning World Champions France. Ukraine began their Nations League campaign with back-to-back victories away at the Republic of Ireland and at home to Armenia, but could only draw at home to the Irish last time out. As well as scoring in 9/10 of their World Cup qualifiers – only failing to score away to Wales in that WC play-off final – The Blue and Yellow have found the back of the net in each of their opening three Nations League outings.
Scotland vs Ukraine Match Preview
Bet of the Day
Just under four months after Scotland saw their World Cup hopes being dashed by Ukraine, the pair meet again at Hampden on Wednesday evening in a meeting between the top-two in Nations League B1. These two nations rarely fail to score and given neither are particularly tight at the back, I’m happy to back both sides to get on the scoresheet – just like they did at the start of June.
Steve Clarke’s hosts netted in all six of their World Cup qualifiers at home, as well as against Armenia in the Nations League at Hampden and they should at least score against a Ukraine defence that only kept one clean sheet in WC qualifying. Oleksandr Petrakov’s visitors netted in 9/10 of their WC qualifiers, as well as each of their opening three Nations League fixtures and I’m backing them also to net against a Scotland defence that conceded multiple goals at home to Israel, Austria and of course Ukraine in the World Cup qualifiers.
