Bayer Leverkusen will look to move within one point of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich this evening as they welcome in-form Mainz to the BayArena in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Xabi Alonso’s hosts are the second-highest scorers in the Bundesliga, slamming in 40 goals across their opening 16 contests, with 22 (55%) of them coming in front of their supporters.
Die Werkself have found the back of the net in all bar one of their league outings this term – notching on multiple occasions in an impressive 13 (81%) of them – and will be confident of adding to their goal-tally against a Mainz defence that’s kept five clean sheets this season, with four (80%) of those coming against the bottom-five in the Bundesliga table.
Bo Henriksen’s visitors have scored 30 goals across their opening 16 Bundesliga fixtures this season, with 18 (60%) of those coming across their seven road trips.
The 05ers have failed to score just three times in the Bundesliga this term, striking on multiple occasions in each of their last seven matches – as well as in 6/7 (86%) of their away days – and will look to breach a Leverkusen backline that has kept just two clean sheets in the Bundesliga this season, shipping multiple goals in seven (44%) of them.

Bayer Leverkusen’s opening 16 Bundesliga fixtures this campaign have averaged a staggering 3.94 goals per game, with both teams obliging in a league-high 14 (88%) of them – and given the same has landed in 7/9 (78%) of Mainz’s Bundesliga contests against teams positioned in 11th and above – I’m happy to have a play on both of these sides finding the target in North Rhine-Westphalia this evening.
