IT'S a clean slate for Johnb in February as he looks to bounce back from a disappointing January.

He ended the month 30.67pts down and had a double-stake tip he hoped would get him off to a flier but his Nap/NB is now a non-runner.

Johnb's Monday Tips

Kempton 3.25
Giovanni Di Bicci 11-8 bet365 NAP/NB (double stake) Non-runner

Perfect Alchemy 7-2 bet365

Giovanni Di Bicci & Perfect Alchemy 9.69-1 bet365

Giovanni Di Bicci (NAP/NB double stake)
Trainer Jim Boyle has joined the Lulu Stanford fan club as she has her first ride for him on Monday. Giovanni Di Bicci won well last time after 237 days off the track and after a wind operation , Adam Kirby was onboard that day and the horse won very impressively by four & a half lengths. Although this horse has had eight months off he is still only a 4yo so is still open to plenty of improvement.
He hadn’t shown a great deal previously but it just shows you what a wind operation can do for a horse , the connections knew the effect of the operation would have because he landed a bit of a gamble on Wednesday over this course and distance.
He has been raised 6lb for that win and is running against better horses than he did last time but we have Lulu Stanford taking off a valuable 7lb, so effectively Giovanni is running off 1lb lower than he did last time which also means he is running off bottom weight and carrying 21lb less than the top weight.
The trainer Jim Boyle could have found an easier race for this horse, but he is confident enough after his last run which was very impressive.
Giovanni Di Bicci is a bit short in price but he is the best bet of Monday where we could see a few favourites winning.

Pacha Du Polder boosts Victoria Pendleton’s Cheltenham aspirations

    • Paul Nicholls: ‘She has given Pacha Du Polder a great ride to be second’

    • Pendleton: ‘I think such a quality horse makes life a lot easier

Victoria Pendleton’s jump racing career has, by her own admission, been progressing in baby steps but a narrow defeat in a photo finish here in Dorset marks a much bigger stride forward. The former Olympic cyclist was held by a head on her only ride of the day and for the first time her ambition of taking part at the Cheltenham Festival seems reasonable rather than precarious.
This was her first race aboard Pacha Du Polder, her intended mount in the Festival’s Foxhunter Chase and a much classier animal than those who have been providing the rookie jockey with her point-to-point education in the past two months. There was understandable concern beforehand that, having been brought along steadily, Pendleton might now find herself overhorsed but she coped even to the extent of following the tactics laid out for her by Paul Nicholls.
Though success eluded her, she looked much more accomplished in fighting out a finish than might be expected of someone whose first riding lesson was less than a year ago. And perhaps the most remarkable fact about her nascent points career is that she has cleared around 120 obstacles without a single fall or even threatening to be unseated, looking a different rider from the one who slithered needlessly from the saddle in a Flat race in October.

Having been settled out at the back because of concerns over his stamina for three miles on such a taxing surface, Pacha Du Polder made smooth progress to hit the front with a circuit and a half to go. He was cruising along at that point while the race rather fell apart behind him but one rival stuck tenaciously within striking distance.
It was Queen’s Bay, partnered by Bryony Frost, described afterwards by Nicholls as being “very much more streetwise” than Pendleton. On the long downhill run before the home turn, while Pendleton went wide in search of better ground, Frost made a race-winning charge up the inner.

Doubtless the old punter’s complaint of ‘Swap the jockeys, change the result’ would have been justified here but Frost was born into this game as the daughter of a Grand National-winning jockey and her horse was primed to the minute, while Pacha Du Polder’s big target is six weeks away. For Pendleton to be trading blows with such a rival is a major achievement and she was thrilled.
“Perhaps, looking back, I could have kicked on a fraction earlier,” she said. “But it was such a joy to ride such a fabulous horse. I think anyone could get on and ride one like that because [he’s] just so accurate, relaxed, you just felt it was totally under control.
“I think such a quality horse makes my life a lot easier, so maybe it looks like I’ve come on leaps and bounds but it’s probably a lot to do with Pacha being so excellent. I couldn’t ask for more.”
Asked how she felt she had coped with fighting out her first finish, Pendleton said: “Oh, really good,” though she added: “I lost my rhythm a little bit when I collided with Bryony, as we were coming up the straight.”
Just a fortnight ago, on her return to action after a month’s break over Christmas, Pendleton seemed in two minds about whether pressing on to the Festival would be a good idea but those doubts appear to be ebbing. “If I get to the start line at Cheltenham, it’ll be like winning a bronze medal. If I finish Cheltenham on the horse, even right at the back, it’ll be like a gold medal. And in between there’ll be a silver somewhere in there.”
“She’s given it a great ride,” was the assessment by Nicholls, in whose name Pacha Du Polder will run if he lines up at Cheltenham, though the horse is with Chloe Roddick while in the point to point sphere. Nicholls may now look for a hunter chase for the horse, which would be a significant moment, marking Pendleton’s first step out of pointing into the formalised version of jump racing.

The champion trainer continued: “He’s a little bit suspect on his stamina and the ground. And I knew he’d be a bit keen, that’s why we settled him. It’s a fantastic effort to just get beaten a head.
“The great thing is he stayed really well, which shows us he can get the trip and he will improve tonnes for the run. She’s getting closer, she’ll be thrilled with that. She winged the last and she’s ridden him all the way to the line. She’s fit. She has come on bundles.”
Frost, who conceded it was “a guilty pleasure” to beat a former Olympic gold-medallist by a head, praised Pendleton’s ’switching saddles’ project. “What she’s doing for our sport is brilliant. She’s bringing it into a whole new light and she’s bringing the general public, which is difficult for this sport, we’re in such a bubble. It’s brilliant.”

    • Johnb 3 years ago

I think she has done an outstanding job so far, I hope Victoria does well at Cheltenham and her rides before then and you have to be impressed that she has never fallen and Paul Nicholls wouldn’t praise someone who didn’t deserve it

      • Johnb 3 years ago

And by that comment I meant over the jumps

        • elvis parsley 3 years ago

You know my feelings on this.
Its making a mockery of the game, akin to a tacky reality show.
Most jockeys would give their right arm for this ride yet miss attention seeker decides she can’t stay out of the limelight and so this charade moves to Cheltenham, where all the focus will be on her and not the jockeys who have been working hard for years, mucking out etc, hoping for the breaks this woman is getting.
          Just my opinion…..

Johnb your shortlist tip in the 4.30 kempton… Bouclier interests me tomorrow I think they’re up to something with this one! Was gambled on last time before drifting like the proverbial before the off there’s been some money for this again maybe tomorrow’s the day. We shall see. @10/1 bog

Been looking into this tennis match a lot, and I could be way out with this

    Challenger Tour – Launceston

Jarryd Chaplin v Alexei Popyrin 2am

ALEXEI POPYRIN to win first set 10/3 bet365

ALEXEI POPYRIN to win match 4/1 bet365 betfred coral

Like I said I could be way out with this one but I have watched Popyrin a couple of times, he can usually start well then hit a flat patch, but he proved on occasions to battle back,
Popyrin is only 16 and Chaplin is 23 and physically better,
Chaplin is ranked 950 but Popyrin isn’t ranked yet as he is a junior on the it tour where he is ranked 38 but got a wild card entry for this tournament
His odds are far too high as it’s just about if he can keep his nerve

    • Johnb 3 years ago

Popyrin lost 6-2 7-5 too many mistakes in the first set, looked tight probably through nerves,
Second set totally different player making some good winners, holding his first five service games with ease and getting break points on Chaplins serve but couldn’t take them, then loses his service game when 6-5 down

    Hi folks,

Would like to become a tipster. To keep things simple I will record to SP. I recommend a 40pt bank and 1 pt level stake.

    And we’re racing…

    1st Feb ’16 (+0.00pts)

    2.50 Kempton Southern Storm
    3.10 Wolverhampton Wavelet
    4.45 Wolverhampton Grecian King
    5.15 Wolverhampton Marmurus

    • rale 3 years ago

Moneyrider, welcome and good luck. You must be very confident in your ability when you plan to use SP for your record. You will lose too many points in a long run, that way.

      • duncanpoundcake 3 years ago

Moneyrider I assume when you say SP you mean Betfair SP ,that seems to be the norm for this sort of trial .GL.

        • moneyrider 3 years ago

          Hey rale & duncanpoundcake,

Thanks for your kind words. I believe if you can win at SP (not BSP) as a tipster then you can win anywhere. Even if it is a small profit or just above break even, then using proper staking & advised odds you can increase the potential profits. I also believe if you have the correct bankroll in place, bad runs will look after themselves, in this case 40pts should suffice 50pts if you are worried.. I would start with a £1 or £2 if you want to use Betfair X.

Don’t Call Me (NAP/NB double stake)

Apologies for this one at even money but it looks strong,
In a class 6 claiming stakes on Tuesday, he has been beaten twice recently by a head in class 5 claiming races where the trainer gets to decide what weight the horse has, not the handicapper, this is why on Tuesday Don’t Call Me is so far in at the weights with the second favourite it’s embarrassing, Don’t Call Me is 14lb well in with Patriotic “a horse I have tipped a couple of times”
He is even 6lb well in with Eutropius “also a horse I have tipped before” while the other two runners are just out their depth.
Don’t Call Me has been running against far better horses than these and only in his last race a class 2 he was fourth beat two lengths by Mutasayyid, some of the other horses in that race were the likes of Melvin The Grate, Fort Bastion & Gabrials Kaka
Last year he was beat just over one & a half lengths by Tryster “sure we all remember that horse”
He has run 59 times and only raced at Southwell once and that was on his debut in 2010 and he absolutely loved the surface
Dandy Nicholls loves finding these types of races for his horses and it’s only three years since this horse was running in two group two’s in Meydan
This race on Tuesday is the lowest class of race he has been in
